Paul Carrack wrote this song shortly after he discovered that his bass player in Ace had also been moonlighting with another group and thought that he was going to leave Ace as a result. As fate would have it, not only did the bass player in question end up playing on Ace's version of the song, but it also became their only hit song in the US.
