✅The Ultimate Home Building Checklist✅

Ask for framing blocking when you're having your house built. It provides a nice solid mounting surface when installing things like towel rods, curtain rods, and toilet paper holders. I have more ideas in the free download available at BuilderBrigage .com/social.

And this is a great use of wood that often gets thrown away at job sites.

Wow. New Zealand 🇳🇿 here. Blocking is absolutely standard construction here, it’s regulated. Not just for towel rails or curtain rods, but every space throughout the height of the walls.

Just remember to leave a gap for wires to pass through later. Nothing sucks more than trying to run wires in a wall and run into blocks everywhere.

Instead of blocking you can use metal wall backing sheets. It’s a thin layer of metal that will allow any wiring and or plumbing to still run in the wall because of how thin the metal is . They’re used in commercial and Urban construction where flammable material in wall are a no no.

Every bathroom in our home has blocking for hand rails along every wall. Just in the event that it’s necessary. They can be put anywhere. Also did blocking in the closets for shelving.

That backing is typically installed as part of standard framing

As an electrician, i remember thinking "why is this in my way" and proceed to smack whatever it was out 😂

I always said that bathroom walls should be sheathed with 3/4 plywood before the drywall.

Commercial ADA laws require blocking for grab bars in bathrooms.

If you are an older person building a home get it designed so it can easily be adapted for mobility issues.

Grab bars in the bath, shower etc.

Hey, thanks for this vid!
However, the series is not in order. Can you share the series if it’s not bunched together in a folder on here? Please? Thanks!!

Always get a good plumber that drills blocks. I had a plumber that told his employees to knock out the blocks instead of drilling them. I told my framers to cut out any Plumbing that's in the way. That fix that problem.

The other option is to put some sheat material between the studs. It's a great job for apprentice who is learning. As the sheet of ply or what ever can be roughly cut. Then then can screw blocks into the corners of the sheet. Then use the blocks to attach to the stud. It's perfect for radiators and other heavy wall mounted items like AC units.

For certain specific things, maybe. But not for some things stated here. Your thermostat will be fine

Tall cabinets, also.
A lot of times you only get a couple screws in tall skinny cabinets

Blocking is only important for hanging things over 50 lbs

How would you know where the blocking is, once it’s walled in?

I did this to my bathroom remodel! I thought of it myself cause I hate those stupid dry wall anchors

but how many people have a home built or if they do are available at the small window of time to make sure these blocks are put in?

I wouldn’t be worried about the blocking. You should be first concerned with the hvac duct that is drilled through the entire floor joist webbing! That is going to be an issue.
