Imagine growing up with a teacher who just explained what happened.

Interesting. And so rational, non-ideological. 👍

Sad that such standards have become the exception nowadays.

Think of how it changed the old world. Italian food was cooked with ZERO tomatoes until the 1500s.
Now you probably have people who probably just assume that plant is native to Italy.

I'm happy this video didn't portray either party in a negative light but explained everything as it was and as it is.

John Ross of the Cherokee and Quanah Parker of the Commanche would be two good examples of what Mr. Sowell was talking about when it came Native American leaders. Unfortunately more people are familiar with Quanah than John.

Ok.
The people in what we call India call their country Bharat.
Their word for river was sindu. The Persians took this to mean that was their word just for the river dividing their lands. So they called the river (Indus) Hindush and also attributed that name to the people on the other side of said river. The Greeks altered Hindush to Indos which the Romans altered into India. Yes, Columbus was trying to reach the islands off the coast of India and thought he had at first. But Spanish colonization of the Americas and their word for indigenous (indigena) is where people in the US get the word Indian (even the state of Indiana). Much like a word once widely used that was a derivation of the Spanish word for black.

Dr. Sowell, you are the mot valuable educational resource ever. That is so impersonal and that kills me inside. You are very literally one of the most important people in most of American history, and THE ABSOLUTE most important person when considering racial history.

I hope that I get to meet you in person and shake your hand in the current time frame! Where can I actually meet you?

I always say, if Diversity Is Our Strength, the American Indians sure had and have a problem with the “Diversity” that made its way to North America (and still do). South Africans and Southeast Asians sure weren’t happy with “Diversity”. But today we are supposed to promote the Diversity Is OurStrength mantra.

Most people don't know that the Indians and Spaniards got along very well. Apache and Navajos especially.

I'm taking that word back.
