A small rant/PSA about COX's new 1TB data caps. For more information, check out these links:

UPDATE: Per DarkOneX - Note that COX added a part in their FAQ that unlimited data plans are coming soon.

UPDATE 2: Per Ray Shaw - For those that don't have other ISPs as an option, you can "upgrade" your account to get an additional 500GB or an unlimited data plan. They are $29.99 and $49.99 respectively. To do this, login to your account. Scroll down to the "Recommended Upgrades For You" section and click "Browse all upgrade options". Scroll down to the "Internet" section and click the "Add Additional Data Plan" button.

I got the feeling those few thumbs down is from the CEO of Cox cable while they're relaxing in their office chair.

Here's the kicker: They are the only provider in my area! I have no choice but to fork out money to them if I want Internet. Sad times indeed.

Edit: CenturyLink is offered but only in 10 Mbps for $45 per month excluding any other fees. Honestly not a good value either

I have a stay at home wife and children. They have Desktop computer, Smartphone, Tablets, SmartTV's, Using youtube, hulu, netflix, Facebook and whatever the hell else! I'm gonna blast past that data cap ever month! I'm mad as hell!

My mother has Cox Cable in CT and I pay for her to have SlingTV because the cable bill went up close to $300. I got her bill down to $79.99 but due to the datacap, it went back to to around $130. That should be illegal.

Leaving Cox CABLE! This is crazy! Already pay too much! I have kids and they stay on the internet! We're getting charged for something that we PAY to have! Think about that, that's crazy. It doesn't cost COX more money for the amount of internet we use. This is a great opportunity for other internet service providers to take Cox Customers! And I will be one of them most certainly!

Cox just hit me with a $50 data overage fee. Of course I call and ask if they can stop my data when I reach data cap. I'm transfer to three different departments and was on hold for nearly 20 minutes. I gave up and hung up.

I am extremely outraged. Here in Vegas, they are pretty much the only provider if you want speeds more than 25mb. Called them, and was told that there are no higher tiers than the one I have and if i want to curb my internet usage, to get their cable tv service and watch more of that. *&%! your tv service!

Well done video that I am glad you did with it still fresh on your mind. I can't overstate enough how this wouldn't be an issue if we could go across the street to Google Fiber, ACME ISP, Bob's ISP, or whomever and shop around like you can for cars, houses, appliances, etc. No choice.

Both Cox and Comcast have since increased their data caps from 1024GB to 1280GB, but still, that is not enough. Data Caps are still BS, and we all know it. Unlimited Data should be included in all internet plans at no extra cost like it is here in Canada, not as a separate money grabbing add-on that customers have to purchase per month. It's ridiculous. Yes I know, I am a Canadian studying about United States ISP's, but still.

Going through this starting last month here in KS, but I cancelled our $120/mo TV service to make up for the data overages we will always have. Luckily I found they max out at $100 in overages because last month I went over almost 1TB and they only charged $100 in overages when it shoulda been about $200 so that's good. I mean it still sucks but now that we are using free/cheap services like Netflix and PlutoTV our monthly bill is now less than what it was with their TV service even with this new cap. Note that they did add a part in their FAQ that unlimited data plans are coming soon, and I got a call from Cox because I filed an FCC complaint over this data cap and she told me that on the phone too.

Data limits are a thing of the past and are just a greed capture attempt. Most customer supporting ISP suppliers do not have data caps. I exceed Cox fiber limits every month so I will never use COX until it drops data caps.

well I remember first did it in Cleveland, OH where I am now, last year and some people try them to stop this and COX but to bad no one else with more power did not act and stop them, now I see they gonna do it all over US and 1TB for all the plans beside Gigabyte one it;s stupid . you can reach it so fast now since more and more of us we watch movies or live tv online, plus downloading games if you are into them or streaming etc, someone somebody has to do something about this, this is outraged !

I think hughesnet satellite internet is the worst provider with 50gb/month data cap and 800ms latency.
