'Weird Al' Yankovic - UHF Music Video Comparison

preview_player
Показать описание
This is a frame by frame comparison between Weird Al's UHF music video and the various original music videos that were parodied on it.
All of these music videos were cut and (with the exception of Sledgehammer) either sped up or slowed down to fit UHF's tempo and Al's movements and timing. Sledgehammer was untouched and only cut to preserve the stop-motion effect.
Once In A Lifetime was heavily edited because of Al's mix of David Byrne's arm flailing and other David background dancers not corresponding to the original video, so Byrne in the right was greenscreened back for the first dance, but not the second as that one had more background Byrnes that could not be deleted. The background Yankovics as a result could not be compared, but they did reference Byrne's original moves, which only needed to be sped up to fit Al's timing.

Holy crap, I knew this was based on the popular MVs of the time, but I didn't realize it was practically shot-for-shot identical! How did they even do that with the technology of the time?

This is awesome! Only thing that could've made it better were the originals for the movie references too, but this is great!

I thought it was going to be showing differences in an alternate version of the video, this was a lot better :D

I still remember that Weird Al special in the 90's where they showed the original and then his parody of the video/song, it was all over VH1 for the longest time.

Great job!!!.
Al is better looking than all of these pop stars. You can really see it when he dresses up like them.
It's that afro, mustache and glasses that hide his good looks.

As someone who had never seen most of these videos, I'm surprised by how faithful Al was. A lot of things that I assumed were jokes were actually in the originals... but I guess that's the '80s for you.

The Addicted To Love segment in this video makes me wonder: “Why didn’t Al make a full video for Addicted To Spuds?”
