I have to say, this is the first time I have been legitimately "wow"-ed by a new synth since the MatrixBrute from Arturia. I love the sound of the MODX, it seems like it would be great for some 70s or 80s style ambient music.

Years back, i would have steered clear of this sort of thing, but i've grown up since then - it sounds great.

Wow what a great sounding synth. I will have to look into this one. Sounds fresh after hearing so many analog synths.

Great video, I just picked up a MODX, it's great. Very happy now its time to dig into this beast.

Sounds fantastic! With a pedal controlling the Super Knob I bet one could forget about the lack of aftertouch quickly. That being said I wonder how it responds to a MPE controller like the Roli?

I like the sound but the lack of aftertouch is a killer. I know Yamaha had to trim features from the Montage but that shouldn't have been one of them. Not in an FM synth and not at this price point.

I truly wish Yamaha would just make a very knobby Fm only synth. Like the Akemies Castle. But with effects and an analog filter. Boom!

No after touch is OK with me for real, I have it on other synths and hardly ever use it. I prefer to map modulation to velocity, and obviously it can do that. Cheers!

I had just bought my Yamaha MODX-8 and I had not the time to experiment on it. I bought it, because it is very light weight compared to my Yamaha P-150 (Same as the P-200) and it has a great piano sound. I am impressed on how easy it is to select preset compared to the Yamaha Montage.

To me the best part is the FM engine, but at the same time I find FM sound so beautiful ... Now which one to get ...

FM is one of the biggest deals of this...also the drums sound good, and the guitars!

Its an amazing synth for all types of music and you can create your own sounds or buy expansions.
I love mine and this video.
Thanks BoBeats.
Ps i love all the sounds.

I really like how a lot of these last gen synths combine the old with the new. This one takes what we love from the DX7, the FM synthesis, and combines it with "modern" PCM / sample based sound production. The killer function here being the amount of possible layers and FX per layer. The one downside I see is that there isn't an aweful lot of front panel controls. Sure it hands down beats the DX7 in that, but it does lack the control a more dedicated synth like the System 8, Sledge 2, Model D has. Those of course lack the flexibility that this synth has. Overall good times to be alive (Y)

Hey Bo! Sorry this has nothing to do with the video...but I finally got a circuit! Found it for 75$ USD at a local pawn shop! It is so inspiring!

Huge sounding synth. Some limitations, but price wise..verrrry nice.Add a controller keyboard and a lovely Roland FA for your output options for live music and you'll have a killer live setup to beat everything available in the past.

That pad at 6:30 coming in full sounds beautiful, to my ears anyway has a real 80s Hansa studio type sound to it.

It does sound great, but seriously, no aftertouch in a modern synth keyboard like this is just crazy. You only need to consider how many times you're taking a hand off the keys to turn the knob to do things which would have been perfect mapped to aftertouch...
