AwesomeMattG Builds His Computer (004)

Fourth video of AwesomeMattG finally starting to build his computer. We start with placing the CPU on the motherboard and the assembly of the heat sink. We start applying thermal paste and discover that something is a little wrong.

While not necessary, diagonal screwing is optimal as it prevents mis-mounting and provides better spread of the thermal compound when compressed.

@Kadadj Dozens, but only about 5-7 gaming rigs. Mostly built standard desktops.

I started screwing around with them when I was about 12~13 and started actually being half decent at it at about 16.

You can apply a Pea size thermal paste and either spread yourself or put the heatsink on and it'll spread it when applied...

matt, would you personally suggest using a razor blade or other small flatish object to spread the thermal paste? ive seen online that you can apply a drop of it in the middle then apply the heatsink and turn it a bit and the weight will spread it out.. whats your thoughts on that technique?

You can see that you have worked on computers/construction because you did diagonal screwing when it was no even necessary. That is a great habit to have.

@gamerx9191 I think some pastes can be applied this way, but not every one! I guess it would work with the ones that are silver-compounded and more 'liquidy' and less 'pastey'.

At like 7:08 or so he shows the nuts, SOOO your telling me that they gave you an extra screw if you lost one but only 4 nuts... YEA that makes complete sense

wow I use 1/3 of a thermal paste syringe, hope that's not too much
never had any problems with it
