Utah also has a MLS team that pulls around 20k in attendance. I think NHL will do really well here. People want sports here.

They need a name, if not it’s ridiculous, the thrashers had less time, they sold in late may, and they came out with a jersey in late July 2011

According to the owner and Bettman’s press conference, the plan is to do a two stage renovation to bring the capacity up to 17, 000 for hockey. They want to stay downtown and that would be impossible if building a new facility.

Antlers, Blizzard, Rattlers, Scorpions, Stingers, Yetis are one of my predictions/suggestions

The Fact that the Owner of the DELTA Center also Owns the UTAH Hockey and JAZZ Basketball Teams make renovations more applicable.

Relocating to Utah is not going to fail. There is a sizeable hockey group that loves hockey with the ECHL. Plus having fans here that would drive over an hour or more to come watch helps

"one pro sports team"... real salt lake in the MLS isn't a pro sports team?

It's time you include MLS as a major pro league.
SLC has one

I think the Yeti would be a great name for the new NHL team because a yeti is a mythical creature.

Speaking of not wanting to sound like a wnba team, the Jazz need a new name too!

Freeze, blizzard and Fury sound like kid's soccer teams. I'm surprised they aren't considering Ice Dogs or bad checks with that line of thinking. Just call them the Smiths, give them a blacksmith logo and call it a day.

A huge number of seats at Wrigley and Fenway in the lower bowl are obstructed view due to support beams, and those seats still always sell.

I would vote for the Utah Gulls. The official state bird of Utah is the California Gull. That one state's bird carries another state's name is odd, but there's a reason behind that choice. In the early days of settlement, they were supposedly afflicted by a locust swarm that threatened to destroy all of their crops and starve the people to death. They prayed for deliverance, and a flock of gulls arrived in the area and ate the locusts. Those gulls were later named California Gulls by the ornithological community. I don't know for certain that these events happened, but they are part of Utah legend. The account is connected to the Mormon church, and maybe neither the city nor the NHL wants to lean into Salt Lake City's Mormon heritage that much. I don't live in Utah, and I'm not a member of the LDS Church. However, I think the legend is a neat aspect of Utah heritage. I think Utah Gulls would work very well as a team name because of that connection to the past. I might not ever get to attend a game, but I would consider becoming a fan and buying a jersey.

A name that would fit better with Utah's modern tourism industry would be Utah Canyoneers. While we think of canyons as being more a part of the topography of southern Utah, the entire state has some big canyons. Many people like going to Utah to participate in the sport of canyoneering which is the fancy name for hiking and exploring canyons.

I could be happy enough with the Utah Pioneers, but that name wouldn't excite me as much. The other names all seem clichè.

Utah Cult. The merch would be awesome.

Utah Rush doesn't sound too bad taking it off that headline. I personally prefer the sasquatch branding to go along with the Blizzard name myself.
