The Scorpion & The Frog - Classic Fable - Short Story

Показать описание
The Scorpion and the Frog is an animal fable which teaches that some people cannot resist hurting others even when it is not in their own interests. This fable seems to have emerged in Russia in the early 20th century.

A likely precursor to The Scorpion and the Frog is the Persian fable of The Scorpion and the Turtle. This earlier fable appears in the Anvaar Soheili, a Persian collection of fables written c. 1500 by Hossein Va'ez Kashefi. The Anvaar Soheili is in part a translation of fables from the Panchatantra, a collection of Indian fables written in Sanskrit, but The Scorpion and the Turtle does not appear in the Panchatantra, which means it was added to the Anvaar Soheili by Kashefi and is thus likely Persian in origin.

I remember reading this as a small child and it being really powerful for me. As I've gotten older, I've told this story many times to many people who have a hard time understanding why bad people can do bad things to them- without remorse.- and even and especially when it defies logic. It's in their nature.

Revision:

The scorpion was informed by his doctor he only had a few months to live.

With little time left the scorpion went on to embark on the most legendary troll he could think of.

"Lol" said the scorpion. "LMAO"

- “What the hell was the point of that story?”
- “Point is, frogs are bitches and we do not negotiate with terrorists”.

If you know, you know.

Wookiefoot has a great song version of this tale...if you haven't heard it you should give it a listen.

The Frog should have said "Sure get on my back. I'll get you across to the other side." Then when the Scorpion get on his back, dive deep into the water and drown the scummy Scorpion.

I got out right before I “drowned.” They’re gonna sting you no matter what. Nobody is sacred.

Some of yall are racist in these comments but the moral of the story isn't be careful about trusting others. It's more so about trusting yourself, hence the self-destruction line at the end.

Aesop was having an off day when he wrote this one. Or am I missing something? The message I take from it is “no good turn goes unpunished” and “trust no one”. WTF?!
