In one version of this story the Scorpion asks a Turtle for help. Halfway across the river the Scorpion tries to sting the Turtle but his stinger cannot pierce the Turtles shell. Realizing the Scorpion betrayed him the Turtle dives below the water and drowns the Scorpion.

The moral of the story everyone bears total personal responsibility for their own actions. The Scorpion choose to sting the Turtle an has only himself to blame for the consequences.

I prefer the alternate ending in which the frog just pulls out a .44 magnum and shoots the sh*t out of the scorpion, honestly

This is my all-time favourite fable. As short as it is, it teaches a great and important lesson we all need to learn. You can save yourself a lot of trouble, heartache, and disappointment when you know you can't change people.

I heard this before but I thought the scorpion waited until they were near the other side so it was a parable about users. It is similar to the one where the woman nurses a dying poisonous snake to health and then once healthy it bites and kills her. When asked why it bit the hand that fed and nursed it to health, the snake also responds that "this is his nature."

There are many types of people in the world. On one end of the spectrum you have those who intentionally harm others at any cost, even at their own demise. On the other end of the spectrum you have those who go out of their way to help others, even risk endangering themselves. The key is finding the sweet spot in between - help those who need it if you can, but be smart and don't risk threats that outweigh your service, and don't be the type of person that harms others.

I read a story from a book about a spider who was drowning and a man tried to save it but the spider kept biting him.
The man pick it up,
And the spider bits him.
He drops the spider
And tries to pick it up again.
The Man says to the spider
"Im trying to help you!
So, Why are you bitting me?"
And the spider says,
"Because it's in my nature."
Then the spider said to the man,
"Why are you trying to help me knowing that I will bite?"
The man said
"Because it's in my nature"

I know another version, the scorpion ask the frog for help and they across the river withouth a hitch, but when the scorpion crawls to the shore the frog ask
" what about your nature"
And the Scorpions answers
" I can't control my nature, but i can control my actions "

Heard that one as a little kid. Never forgot it. Not sure, was this from Aesop's fables?

This is why Gosling’s character in “Drive” has a scorpion on the back of his jacket. Think about it.

The moral is you cannot trust the words or actions of things/people that YOU KNOW (key words) are naturally prone to certain behaviors/actions. The frog knew the scorpion could potentially sting him. But he trusted the scorpion and was stung. He was stung not because they were enemies. The scorpion stung him because that’s what scorpions do. Another example, you cannot go pet a wild lion that YOU KNEW could potentially eat you and expect it to be warm and friendly. It will eat you. Because that’s how wild animals are by nature.
