I remember when the issue of the wire bristles coming off and getting left on the grates was getting a lot of buzz online. After that I continued to use my wire brush, but kept it in mind and made sure to give the grill a good look over. Well, in the year or so that followed I did indeed find a small, fine metal wire on my grill one afternoon. The wire brush went into the garbage and another hasn't been used since.

I have used the steel coil model and it works fairly well. Also, the wooden "paddle" style works quite a bit better than they suggest. It isn't as good as a wire bristle brush, on that I agree, but it works decently and it took me nowhere near 10 minutes to develop those burnt in grooves that allow for good cleaning. It was much less work in my experience to get it "grill ready."

Using a slightly less effective grill cleaning method is worth the peace of mind for me, but to each their own.

You've never seen bristles coming loose? Give it a few months - every single one Ive ever owned shed them like crazy after a while. I bought the spiral version and couldn't be happier. It cleans my grill well enough.

I have the Weber 12” brush and use it in my BGE. For me, it’s a bit short in length. But, I do use it and I’m often reminded how hot fire is! 🔥

Though it probably wasn’t distributed at the time that this video was made, I just got a Fire Rescue Kevlar wrapped brush. I used it for the first time this weekend and was surprised at how effectively it cleaned the grill without any bristles. A quick rinse in hot water when I was done and 90% of the gunk washed away. The directions say after it becomes permeated with black char and grease to run it through your dishwasher which I intend to do. It costs about $45 for the brush and two heads, but I was impressed.

I dip my bristle brush in water before scrubbing a super-hot grill. It’s like steam-cleaning! Try it!

Excellent!!!
Thanks so much for being here on YouTube.
Have a few cookbooks and I used to watch you on PBS.
No longer watch much tv, but find a lot of selective wanting to learn stuff here.
This was a great clip!!!
As my husband and I absolutely love to grill, and he had a very bad experience with a bristle brush, he's been using our spatula to clean the grates...
Which sort of work cause we usually just grill veggies and meat, sometimes cheese on burgers or melting out of jalapenos, so sometimes they do get sticky.
We were using a stone grate cleaner but it always wore out too fast then we just couldn't find them when we needed them. So thanks so very much for the share and all you test and do.
He's going to be super happy knowing what you've selected works best.

After experiences the metal fibers in my food, I would never use them no matter how effective they are.

I use the Weber brush and then along with a quick visual inspection follow with a wooden scraper to knock down any potential bristles.

I've used an old fashioned 'pumice stone block' forever. It's easy, fast, effective, and after a quick rinse, and that bad boy is CLEAN!

The wood scraper works well and is completely safe, the handle is longer than the others tested here keeping hands further away from the hot fire. The more use it gets the better it works and lasts pretty much forever. Not sure many folks actually take their grill brush to a party Adam.Paid $15 at Costco many years ago, love it.

There was an episode of "monsters inside me" where a teenage swallowed a grill brush bristle. It ended up puncturing his intestines and he almost died. I haven't use a grill brush with bristles since watching that episode. Also balled up aluminum foil and tongs works in a pinch.

"Grilling Season"...I don't understand people who only use their grill for a season. Mine gets used year round.

That stated I take issue with their casual dismissal of the nylon bristles. Those aren't for regular grills. Those are for grills (Typically pellet smokers) that have ceramic coated grates that metal bristles tend to damage. Cleaning those grates cold isn't a problem. As for those rare times you do need to hot clean, the Kona is what you need. I truly appreciate what ATK does with these reviews, but as someone who uses multiple types of grills and smokers nearly daily and have done so for decades, you guys missed the boat on this one. The weber is fine for general grill cleaning, but honestly it bends and twists and is a general hassle. It is the best of the worst so to speak in that really just about all grill brushes of this type are just awful.

I use two brushes. First a good wire brush to clean the grill. Next I use a stainless steel pad brush to finish clean everything including any wire brush pieces that may have come off on the other brush. Using both is actually very quick, thorough and safe. And since we're talking clean grills, don't forget to always apply some vegetable oil before and after grilling to the grill. It makes clean up go much more easily and helps protect your grill. Now everyone, get out there and get grilling. 😄👍🔥🍻

I have gotten great results wiping down the inside of the grill with a large chunk of onion followed by a once over with a ball of aluminium foil.

I have one with wire bristle and after warming up the grill a bit I scrub the bars. Then I use a kitchen paper towel soaked in avocado oil to clean the bars and get any, if any wires broke off. The last two years I’m doing it this way haven’t found a thing

"if your worried about bristles"

Everyone should be worried about metal bristles being in their food. There aren't just "reports" of people having them stuck in their throats it happens and I've unfortunately seen it happen.
