Obito Uchiha was a member of Konohagakure's Uchiha clan. He was believed to have died during the Third Shinobi World War, his only surviving legacy being the Sharingan he gave to his teammate, Kakashi Hatake. In truth, Obito was saved from death and trained by Madara, but the events of the war left Obito disillusioned with reality, and he inherited Madara's plan to create an ideal world. Resurfacing under the names of Tobi and Madara Uchiha himself, Obito subtly took control of the Akatsuki, using them as a means to advance his machinations, eventually going public and starting the Fourth Shinobi World War. However, towards the war's conclusion, Obito had a change of heart and, as atonement, sacrificed his life to save the same world he sought to replace.

Obito survived: having half his body crushed, having his heart obliterated, mentally controlling the 10 tails, having the 10 tails extracted, using rinne rebirth, searching through Kaguya’s timespace, and then clung onto life temporarily after reviving a 100% fatal blow. He then came back to give Kakashi his powers.

Let me tell you how nerfed Obito is:

A 14 yo went up against arguably a top5 shinobi of all time, had his chance and almost sucked him up and admitted that he wasn’t taking it seriously while Minato was out for a kill

Has one of the strongest genjutsu, barely ever uses it

Drops his tools (chains and fan) for almost entirety of the show

Almost never uses wood style

Most importantly, has always had the ability to take his second Sharingan from Kakashi but never did, which also means he never got his Susanoo

And lastly, when he turns into Juubito, he can no longer use Kamui but somehow Madara can

Put aside that after everything Obito went through in the war arc he was reacting to Kaguya and was one of the main reasons they were able to win

Obito is just constantly nerfed because he’s be unstoppable

DMS Obito is the strongest character in the Narutoverse

I remember fondly the days around 2006 and 2007 of theorizing if Tobi was Obito. Always seemed pretty obvious. People always talk about the name similarity and the position of the eyehole. I don't remember a lot of people at that point talking about how how there seemed to be some form of intangibility he had and how that may have been a space-time Jutsu similar to the thing that Kakashi used on Deidara's arm
