If pro athletes can get paid for endorsements, college players should as well

It's about time after all these universities make a lot of money off of these athletes.

I was just talking about this. This is amazing good for them.

But but but...this means that the NCAA won't make all of the profit from the hard work of others

The NCAA is FURIOUS about this ruling GOOD GET ANGRY YOU CORPORATE STOOGES how dare you rake in BILLIONS of dollars for yourselves and give little to nothing for college students that makes the money I think it should only be fare that YOU the CORPORATIONS should pay your fare share of your profits

As a video game player I'm very excited this is going to allow video companies to bring back college football and college basketball games to the video systems

Entertainers get paid to entertain, these guys and girls work hard to get where they are. Most of them won't play professional sports, pay them for their services.

It's sick how these kids have been prostituted for years. As a former 2 sport NCAA athlete (football and track) I can testify that it is a full time job. Sick how these institutions can sell a players jersey and profit millions but if that same player buys his own jersey and signs it and sells it or if you sell your own championship ring you get punished. This has been modern day slavery and billions have been made on the backs of these athletes where not all are on scholarship and less than 1% go pro.

They'll just make them pay for their education now :)

And it's especially about time given the fact that they pay these coaches millions of dollars a year but they don't pay these athletes anyting and not to downplay the position of a coach but let's be honest here people want tuning in for the coaches people are tuning in for the athletes

Save that money if you play football. CTE is a heck of a problem to suffer with for a lifetime.

Bad idea, these kids get a free scholarship to get a free education because they can play basketball, football, baseball, they are there BECAUSE they are athletes. Your getting a free education, what the hell else do you want.

I think South Park covered this topic very well in the crack baby basketball episode.

As a former college athlete, I disagree with this. College athletes ARE getting paid - it's called a FULL RIDE scholarship!! They are amatures, not professionals. If they want paid, then they should skip the college experience. If colleges are making that much money with endorsements, why don't they funnel that money into making tuition more affordable?
Now all of the good athletes will be heading to CA!

Finally ! Now will this only affect California schools, so does this mean Oregon football players will only get paid for games they play in California ?

Now what the college players need to do is Unionised and start negotiating with the NCAA and get their piece of the pie

why not just say straight amateur sports are done and we want the corporations to take it all over. beyond belief.
now i have a question, when the gladiatorial combat begins who gets to turn thumbs down?? will it be only the elite or will those who pay hundreds and thousands to view the spectacle get to vote on who lives or dies too.

A "free ride" and well allotted remuneration put into a trust fund is a good idea. It sure beats the field alums slapping cash into the players' hands and the star of the team suddenly driving a SS Camaro. Setting up a reasonable incentivized payout would obviate the kid in a candy store syndrome. Most of these talented students need guidance in every aspect of their "kid" lives so if they choose a post grad life outside the NFL they have something to show for it.

this is how it starts..
the NCAA is powerless compared to the conferences..
if the Pac-12 starts paying players then the SEC and B1G will follow suit forcing the issue..
the NCAA is only there as a recent addition to college athletics and thats only because the conferences wanted a regulatory body..
in other words, if the conferences want the rule changed to help with recruiting then the NCAA is going to have to adapt or perish..
