Excellent book. I have it. Ends the myth of an Islamic golden age. The invasion of Spain by Muslims was the last gasp of the Islamic military and colonistic empire.

Released in 2016. I have been recommending this book to all whom i could open their minds to it. Dr. Morera has done some good interviews where he discusses his book too. This reminds me of the nonsense of the golden age saving all the ancient literature like Plato etc. dude the literature would have needed to be saved before the caliphates. Ie Christians Persians etc. inheriting something is not making something.

I've read this book. It's chock full of information that non-Spanish speakers don't have access to.
Also, whenever someone uses the term "Islamic golden age, " they usually mean Andalusia or 8th century Baghdad. But a Muslim woulld only reckon the era of the "rightly guided caliphs" in the 7th century as their golden age.

This is authenticly a great read. Historical documentation to support all of the arguments Prof Dario makes, and written by a Spanish historian to boot who has the ability to read and include European and non-English Historical documents. So much of this Andalusian myth in the English speaking west is based on poor and inadequate research. I don't even know how some of these lazy "historians" get away with reporting Spanish history without using documents reported in European languages

There is also the factor that (not just in Al-Andalus but in the rest of the Islamic world), that the period considered to be the Islamic Golden Age was also one where Mu'tazilite and rationalist positions gained favor with the caliphs, even at the expense of orthodox and legalistic positions, which is why the sciences, religious heterodoxy (Even including atheism), and various form of poetry (even erotic ones) flourished from region to region and time to time.

Compare for example how the Caliphate of Cordoba's is mostly regarded to be Islamic Spain's Golden Age, contrasted with the Almoravids and Almohads that followed them. If anything this book (Which even with admittedly its bias I would still recommned), shows how orthodox Islamic jurisprudence (Atleast Sunni jurisprudence) is very much at odds with the idea of a creative and tolerant society.

Talking about heterodoxy, early islam up to the Middle Ages also had its problem of various heresies throughout its histories, some even Gnostic as well, and I think it would be interesting to have some videos detailing Orthodox Islam's odds with more heterodox forms of it.

The golden age of -slam in Spain is a hoot. Recent discoveries of underground complex cave systems, some of which could house up to 20k prove how God gave a way to escape the scimitar of convert or die. God bless you Lloyd for your direct approach to rectify the last 14k yrs of Qurap.

I read in articles by the Maltese historian Dalli, that it was more of a conveniencia rather than a convivencia.
Conveniencia rather than a convivencia seems to also have happened in al Andalus' daughter, i.e. Sicily.
