The most likely theory that I've seen is that the freezer is the players shadow and the game crashes due to multiple chunks loading from basement worlds and the main map which clash with each other crashing and breaking the game. The reason this is even more likely is since the Xbox 360, the only console to have this problem, has had chunk loading problems in the past in other games as well.

Edit: If this is intentional (which I highly doubt) it's a prank gone too far. Cuz no dev would intentionally give someone the red ring of death

Fun Fact: The freezer is a result of a bug inside the game. So bassicaly, A bug from the devs made the Freezer.

I remember having a bad feeling playing zombie uprising (the mini game needed to perform this glitch) and it wasn’t because of the zombies it felt more like being watched. As I learned about the freezer my memory flooded trying to make senses out of everything until I remembered seing the freezer during the mini game. just so you know the freezer is a bug do to an overload causing a lightning glitches making the game break most of the time not all the time you freeze when this bug appear. However in fewer cases it was possible to see this glitch during regular playing but these encounter in this condition was mostly armless (yet creepy).

it was during that time when playing zombie uprising but without performing the bug that I met that bug for the first and last time (I had nightmares that day).

My guess: this game mode make all npc and assets despawn from the regular map to save some ressources from the console and load the mini game map with new npc (the zombies) but as you escape the mini game the game consider your are both in the minigame map and in the regular map the code prevent the npc’s and other assets from the regular map to spawn as same as the minigame zombies shouldn’t be on the regular map to save on ressources. but the fact that your character is on the regular map make the game wanting to calls in assets and npc’s to spawn but also prevents it making a loop where the game calls for more ressources but also delete those same assets over and over again until at the very moment the game trying to spawn another npc the game freeze leaving the last attempt being the game calculating where the lightning should have placed a shadow for that specific npc that made the game freeze.

The "freezer" is a rendering bug that happens when a player is in a area they aren't supposed to be, when out of bounds, multiple chunks are loaded by the player and the shadow, which basically means the game thinks the freezer and you are the same player which causes a crash

Fun fact: the indie psychological horror game Voices of the Void references this! If you go out of bounds, after a while a shadow will appear and looking at it will freeze and then crash your game. It’s a great game

The freezer is a texture that, when rendered, basically destroys the game.

Here's the fun part. The Devs realized that it's not the actual texture that's the problem, so instead of fixing it, they changed it to a shadow, and put it out of bounds.
