They need to add a kiln to smelt Glass, Sandstone, Stone, Basalt, Clay, and Terracotta faster too many similar block smelts in the furnace to not have one at this point

The name makes sense to me. Slate is a layered rock found pretty deep down, and the name is very fitting since it's only found deep down and looks very much like slate.
