Installing Garmin 93SV Fishfinder On Hobie Lynx with Over-The-Side Transducer Mount
Показать описание
I bought a Garmin93SV GT56 so that I could start building my history of waypoints on that instead of using my phone for Navionics. This is going to be a big learning curve since I have only ever used a Humminbird Helix7 that was kicked down to me from a fishing buddy because it couldn't do the maps, but I am really excited to not have to be constantly looking at my phone for contours and the screen for fish (and constantly worrying about charging my phone so it isn't dead when I need it for fish photos!), and just be able to do it all in one place. I'm also really looking forward to the option to "map" lakes on your own (although I still am not 100% sure what that entails), I have always been willing to put in the work with as much time on the water as I can manage, but now I feel like there will be a lasting payoff from that time instead of just relying on my somewhat imperfect memory!
My first challenge was how to switch out the Humminbird for the Garmin on my Hobie Lynx and the RAM over-the-side transducer mount I use. Yes, I know there is a nice recessed cavity on the Lynx for mounting a transducer, however since I have a great relationship with the Strictly Sail & Kayak shop, I have the opportunity to demo various kayaks, and I would like to be able to easily switch the transducer over if I decided I would like to try out something bigger like a Hobie Compass for my first trip on the Ohio River, or some scenario like that. I am also clueless when it comes to wiring and electrical stuff.. something that I am working to remedy because I feel strongly that I should be able to understand and repair all of my equipment on the road without needing someone to bail me out with help. I have a long way to go towards that goal, but I'm working on it!
So I stopped by the Strictly Sail & Kayak shop in Cincinnati, Ohio, and asked Brian Tacy to be my expert advisor on this install. It was perfect, he would set me on the correct path and let me do the work myself... right up to the actual wiring part where the power cord ended in two mysterious wires. He disappeared into the shop and reappeared moments later with a plug on the end and the wires all taped up. I really regret not getting to see that part or get it on video so I can study what he did, but he says it was a simple as stripping the wire ends bare, twisting them together, and applying electrical tape. He has promised me I can come up and video another install soon.
Subscribe to my GirlGoneFishing channel to follow my tournament season on the Buckeye Kayak Fishing Trail, the Cincinnati Kayak Fishing Trail, and this year I am adding in a few with the Kayak Anglers of North East Ohio, because I don't need much of an excuse to go back up to Erie East/West Harbors and the Portage Lake!
