We meet effects artist Jasper Anderson, aka Mr. Chicken's Prop Shop, who shares with us his take on an D-I-Y animatronic raven that he's designed and produces as a kit. We take a look under the feathers of his raven and see how its array of servos work together to bring this creature to life.

Without exception Norman Chan asks the absolute best questions of his guests. I hear myself saying "Good question" constantly watching his videos. I can't think of anyone better on YouTube (or television for that matter.) Thanks for the interesting video on what looks like a fantastic kit.

I don't understand why you guys removed the Auto generated closed captioning. As an hearing impaired person, I used to be able to enjoy your videos with them on, but now it seems you have removed them from all your videos except for those with added official CC's. The auto generated cc's are good enough to use while waiting for the official cc's to be uploaded for the video. If you guys don't add the auto cc's to your videos, I would have to unsubscribe as I can't enjoy the videos anymore without them.

I've been following this guy's work for years in the Halloween haunter forums and groups. Very cool to finally see him in person. Never knew his real name. Just pictured him as Don Knott's until today 😂

Considering how great it looks at the end, and the work that's gone into it, it's reasonably priced. Very impressive. Would look awesome sitting up high up on a bookcase.

I love it when you go into the technical finesse of machinery.

Very cool. I like making simple animatronics using scrap hardware and servos, it seems like there aren't many guides to making animatronics online.

Years ago I brought myself a kit version of the famous "bow shooting boy", an old Japanese animatronic of a boy who picks arrows from a quiver and shoots them at a target. If you've never heard of it you should really google it, it's completely brilliant. It operates on a single, wind-up drive shaft with a collection of cams, strings, springs and levers to control the movement. Putting it all together is utterly fascinating. I only wish there were more of these things out there.

As one of the first people to purchase one of Jasper’s raven kits, I can attest to the quality of his work. The armature is well designed, strong, and quite simple to build. Jasper did a great job putting these kits together!

Shout out to the animatronic raven with the glowing eyes in the coffin room of The Haunted Mansion in Disneyland/Walt Disney World circa 1969. This HAD to be inspired by it (and of course all the original Disney bird animatronics like the Parrot from Pirates and The Enchanted Tiki Room).

With some tweeking you could make a really cool parrot out of this kit as well.

What a fun presentation. As a kid I was fascinated by the rudimentary animatronics that the Minneapolis Dayton's store had at Christmas.

The Mini Maestro 12 servo controller is amazing im glad to see it is being used on your project. Checkout the Robotochi Automation Breakout board it has the mini maestro you are using on it included with the Arduino Nano and Dfplayer mini (Audio board). Power your Animatronics all on one board!
