Some prisoners released early this week have already been sent back to jail, The Telegraph reports.

The first was returned to prison within 36 hours of being freed on Tuesday under the Government’s early release scheme.

About 1,750 prisoners were let go as jails in England and Wales neared capacity. They were released after serving 40% of their sentences, instead of the usual 50%. Most have been recalled for breaking licence conditions, which restrict their movements and require them to meet with probation officers.

The first recall happened after a prisoner failed to show up at a pre-arranged address.

Homeless veterans with no money, nowhere to live etc haven’t turned to crime. They haven’t been put up in hotels or put to the top of housing ladder. And they say crime doesn’t pay. Ask the victims of the person jailed for two years and released after thirty five days.

In the late eighties a disused military camp (Rolleston) on Salisbury Plain was opened to ease overcrowding in London Jails. It was maned by Prison Governors and Military Personnel. No need to release anyone early.

I respect Det. Chief Insp. Neville for attempting to follow the law when the politicians are trying to undermine it. As does starmer, who wants to destroy the country.
