Hollywood's PATHETIC Blackwashing of History

Once again, Netflix misrepresents key historical figures. After rewriting history for Queen Cleopatra of Egypt, now Hannibal Barca of Carthage, from modern day Tunisia. It's a sad trend in Western entertainment to adapt history content for "modern audiences", and make it about representation rather than factual information.

The issue isn't Netflix re-writing history, the real issue is too many people walking this Earth not having the faintest clue about history in the first place.

As a Berber from North Africa, thank you for tackling this blackwashing issue that is trying to erase us

I am a black African from Sub-Saharan Africa. It's essential to acknowledge that the diverse and rich history of our continent cannot be oversimplified or altered to correct historical wrongs towards black people. Such attempts overlook the need for genuine understanding and appreciation of our unique cultural and historical experiences.

As black Africans, our sense of importance and identity does not hinge on these revisions. It is crucial to let history stand as it is, recognizing its complexities and truths, rather than reshaping it for superficial rectification.

The thing that preplexes me the most about woke films, is that there's many subsaharan historical figures that would make for great movies like Mansa Musa. The subsaharans also have many folk tales that would make for intriguing cinema.

Netflix didnt learned from their mistakes.

Instead of blackwashing history or historical figures that aren't black they should talk more about an actual black history or historical figures

The past was erased, the erasure was forgotten and the lie became the truth.

I love how they are trying to say racism is bad and then say everything in africa is black.

As a Lebanese guy, with 93% of my blood tracing back to Iron Age Phoenician with little foreign influence in me. It's a shame to see hollywood portray Hannibal, a guy from the city of Tyre which I came from on my mother's side (She's a Syriac Orthodox Christian from Tyre.) as a sub-saharan person who has absolutely nothing to do with the Afroasiatic family let alone the Semitic family or Bane Tsur (Tyre) 𐤁‏𐤍‏𐤉‏ 𐤑‏𐤓‏, hell if they wanted to bring a black actor they should've atleast brought a Black Semite (Like an Ethiopian or something.) But they straight up went with tyrone from chicago who descends from the congo.

Btw, this is like getting a chinese actor to play as an indian king (because boohoo they're both part of the same continent of Asia!)

Funnier part, Hannibal was a person that descended from Barca, a guy who accompanied Dido from Tyre, the city I come from to north Africa, to build the new city also known as Qart Hadasht or 𐤒‏𐤓‏𐤕‏ 𐤇‏𐤃‏𐤔‏𐤕‏. So if anything, Hannibal was not even AFRICAN let alone Black. Hannibal was a Phoenician Semite (Arguably one of the lightest Semitic groups you could pick out, for example I have pure pale white skin with semitic curly ash brown hair and amber eyes, and an aquiline nose. I'm positive I have 0 Indo-European in me, I'm native to Lebanon, and 100% positive i have no foreign dna.) So if anything, they should've atleast casted someone from tunisia, lebanon, or like any Arab and I'd be fine with that. But the problem is that they are bringing someone who is completely unrelated with the Semitic people, let alone the afro asiatic people; with 0 phenotypic relation to Semitic People (We have slimmer longer noses than them, and a caucasoid skull, and come in all colors. Whilst they come usually black, with wide flat noses, and a sub-saharan skull.)

Hell it was even stated that the ancient Phoenicians and ancient Hebrews could not even be told apart from Greeks and Romans phenotypically speaking, because we're all CAUCASIAN and Mediterranean. Hollywood cannot put the fact that Caucasians and Non-Caucasians are more different to each other than caucasians are to one another.

Side note: sorry for my bad English, not my native language eitherway.

Edit: After finishing this video, I saw that there's many wrongs here. First of all, barca was not seen as an outsider by the senate, but was seen as too vengeful and too daring by the senate, hence why they weren't fond of him. Second of all, the Barcas did not come from greece; it is a clear semitic surname referring to lightning "Baraq" "𐤁𐤓𐤒, " Hannibal was a Semite, he was an elite of the carthaginian senate and the carthaginian elites rarely intermixed with non-phoenicians. Saying the Barcids are berber or whatever other race is like saying the Ptolemaic Dynasty were Egyptian and not Macedonian greek.

It would have to be Netflix, the meme is officially confirmed. What next Eddie Murphy playing the Duke of Wellington? This should annoy the Tunisian people, just like the Egyptians were offended by Cleopatra.

As a brown person, I think this is ridiculous. Middle and southern Africa will surely have their own heroes, defined by their own cultural values and norms. They don’t need to be condescended to like this. Talk about cultural appropriation!

As a tunisian, it's absolutely disrespectful& inappropriate to rewrite our history saying that our ancestors are black especially when it comes to such character like HANNIHABL and the CARATHAGE empire 🇹🇳 that we still have and appreciate even nowdays we as northafrican and Mediterranean are not black hannibal especially is Phoenician so ofc he's not and to be clear saying that it's offensive to call us and our history black is not racist it's just that it's not our identity we are proud of being who we are ...we still have musem and historical palces, books and even status ab this empire it's a pride❤🇹🇳 that must be saved for the next generation as it was always
Netflix shoud really stop re-write history extremely ignorant
❤🇹🇳

It used to be that at any time you could turn on the History Channel and there'd be a 75% chance they'd be talking about Nazis. Then it became a "reality tv" channel with the most historical thing to be found is about ancient aliens.

I guess the $billions they lost in the lawsuit with Egypt wasn't enough a lesson for Netflix.
