You only had to travel a slow but constant speed of 1, 447 m/s (or 86, 82 m/min) in the Nether to reach 1 million blocks in 24 hours.
Now, if we consider that you can't constantly travel in the Nether for the whole 24 hours and need to take, let's say 4 hours of prep time, pit stops etc. over the course of the 24 hours. That would mean you're only travelling for 20 hours which would mean you had to go 1, 736 m/s (or 104, 17 m/min) in the Nether which still doesn't seem very fast.
Ok, let's say you had to take as much time not travelling as possible, but when you were travelling, you were going slightly below the Minecraft player's normal walking speed at 4 m/s. In that case you'd only have to be travelling in the Nether for 8, 68 hours, or just over a third of the total time!
