GDP (PPP): US States vs Chinese Provinces (1960-2026)

The video compares the GDP (PPP) of American states with Chinese provinces from 1960 to 2026 (projections by IMF). GDP (PPP) is gross domestic product converted to international dollars using purchasing power parity rates. An international dollar has the same purchasing power over GDP as the U.S. dollar has in the United States.

Fun Facts: You can buy yourself a decent meal in China with rice, meat and vegetables with $2, even in big cities like Beijing or Shanghai. A bus ticket normally costs 30 cents (15 cents in many smaller cities). $2-$3 for a taxi ride for about 5 km. I used to go to a hairdresser that only charged $3 to have a hair cut including washing.

Fact: 1)China herself refused to use PPP GDP to claim no. 1 in the world. 2) Unlike the market economy in USA, China's price levels are sometimes distorted because of price subsidies and govt support of money losing state owned enterprises. 3) It's more accurate to use per-capita GDP (in USD or PPP$) to make comparison. 4) I'm not saying that China's economic growth is insignificant, but we should put it in more accurate perspective.

In the USA, economic growth over the past 10 years has been 16%, in the European Union - 31%, in communist China - 101%.
We are assured that today's global problems are in a pandemic. But China's GDP, despite the pandemic, showed an increase of 7.8% in 2021. Under the leadership of the Communist Party, a course is being conducted there, focused not on the interests of a greedy oligarchy (as in modern Russia), but on the genuine development of the national economy and the social sphere.
