If Niles can’t afford $200 for food he had no business trying to find international love

Very unpopular opinion buuuuttt….

Matilda and Niles should NOT get married.

She asked him for $300 for a big celebration/dinner. That hardly makes her a scammer. Niles doesn’t want to get married and he needs to be honest about that.

Niles is not the 1 not the 2 for me.
He lies, and is throwing Matilda under the bus everytime he gets.

Why will Niles go all the way to a different country without at least one person for knocking/marriage anything.. You don’t go alone

Can we talk about the fact that the elder automatically took Niles and made him his son. "I will guide you now!"

Don't Judge Matilda by the Van Cleefe necklace and the Gucci slides. The bootleg versions are so many in every country, they're the most affordable thing around

MR. ARCH embodies the essence of the Ghanaian Elder. Respect and Honesty!!!

My knocking ceremony was just 10 people, you only need a hand full of people in your living room to accept that both families can go ahead and plan for the wedding ceremony

A fellow Ghanaian here 🤚🏿🤚🏿

A Ghanaian wedding with 200 people is on the average to small side, ESPECIALLY if it's happening in Ghana where people have lots of extended family (the nuclear family is a western concept), church family, neighborhood etc. It's just different than how we think of weddings in America. In Ghanaian culture, you are raised by the community/village and the community/village is your family. Weddings are a community affair, ESPECIALLY in a village like Ofinso, where Matilda is from. Please don't judge other cultures through the lenses of your own because it's very easy to make assumptions that way.

I feel sorry for Matilda because with all due respect to the Elder, the plans for the wedding are often negotiated between BOTH families during the knocking ceremony but it is ABSOLUTELY the bride's family who sets the terms, not the groom's family. They can negotiate things down or compromise, if they choose but Mr. Arc as the "father" of the groom CAN NOT set the terms for the marriage and that includes the size, date, location, accommodations etc.

In fact, according to tradition, the knocking ceremony is done at or in proximity to the bride's house. On the other hand, 90 people for a knocking ceremony is absurd. The weddings are grand but that's not necessarily true for the knocking ceremony. At the knocking ceremony, the bride's family will then make a demand in the form of list of ALL their requests (gifts, money, food, etc). I think Matilda was trying to treat the knocking ceremony as a traditional engagement because of the sudden change in plans to postpone the wedding. She was embarrassed.
