Building the TotalBoat work skiff - The Guards (Episode 29)

preview_player
Показать описание
It's time to add the guards to our skiff, all important in its finished look, but also for protection from bumps and scrapes throughout the life of the boat.

Before applying the guards, Lou shows how to correctly nail down the floor planks, using a small but heavy sledge hammer to drive the heavy nails needed to secure these floor planks. Remember, we just "steer the hammer" on its way down.

Lastly in preparing the guards for mounting, Lou shows us how to bevel off the bottom edge of the guards and so they look a little nicer and won't catch up on anything when we mount them on the boat for final fastening.

Fair play Lou on your comment about mistakes! I’ve been a carpenter and woodworker for about 45 years and as you know it’s all part of the game, especially on how we get out of our mistakes and make everything look great as it really is! Great stuff very good videos and your passion, workmanship and experience naturally shines through. All the best and hope your keeping well !

I doubt I'll ever build a boat like this, but I learn something new with every episode that I use in other work I do. This series is priceless!

Many years ago I asked directions just outside of Dublin Ireland and the reply was "you're making it difficult for yourself starting from here!" "It looks an awful lot more like it does now than it did before" beats that hands down" Great series and each one makes my week.

I know mistakes are sometimes embarrassing, but I know I learn more from them than anything else. I would personally love to see a video where you show them and tell where it went wrong so us mere mortals can have even a snowball's chance in hell in building a boat half as cool as your skiff. Love the videos and I am already jonesing for the next installment!

Just wanted to say thank you for this journey we've been on for 29 videos! I've always wanted to build a skiff like the one I had as a boy. It wasn't nearly as beautifully made as yours. It was made by a man named Meyers out of plywood. He made them by the hundreds on the Florida east coast for fish camps and as a kid I spent a few years of my best years in that boat fishing and shrimping. Can't wait to see you complete it and put it in the water!

Thanks for sharing your videos and explaining everything in detail. I have enjoyed watching all of them from the start not everybody would explain they would just try to hurry and finish the job but you are doing a excellent job in detail. once again thank you for sharing.

When I started watching this channel a few month ago I knew nothing about boats. Now, I still don't know too much, but I know that I love watching them being built (and that I'd love to build one some day). Can't wait for the next episode. Keep on the amazing job!

Great job!  I wish I could watch one of your videos every day (I have watched them all)  I love to see the progress but even more to hear your wisdom.  Thanks again for an informative and enjoyable lesson.

It's not many people who can make banging in a few nails and putting a chamfer on a couple of strips of timber interesting but you seem to manage it Lou. Thanks as always for the videos.
