Personally I recommend watching films and series in English.
Depending on how good you already are, I'd say watch them with subtitles at first. The more you watch, the more words you will inevitably learn and then will come the point where you won't even need subtitles anymore.
I don't know, that's just how *I* massively improved my skills.
It's the best way of passively learning, in my book!

ps I also wanted to share my happiness since a few days ago I have found out that I have passed my Cambridge Proficiency Test - C2. What saved me? Passion, years of study, amazing teachers, living and travelling in English speaking countries, having friends who are English speakers, watching contents in English, reading books in English. It may look hard but actually if you have a deep passion this is easy and fun : )

Another fun way: buy the DVDs Only fools and horses, get the transcript from geocities hookyscripts and enjoy! I'm busy with it and I can ensure that:
1-It is very funny
2-I learn lot of words and expressions that are not taught at school...

I started to learn English at 16, by watching TV series, at first they were subtitled in Portuguese (my primary language), then in English. I can watch without them, but I miss a few words, depending on the theme, and that is annoying for me, so I still use them. I also listened to a lot of songs, seeing the lyrics and translation. I suppose the games I played in the past and the English educational book I had when I was younger helped with vocabulary of simple things, like colours. I get British and American mixed up in my spoken speech. A friend of mine says the British words I say are a bit forced. But in overall I speak it and understand well, I think in English, talk with friends, even in dreams something haha. I think it would be amazing to visit England, Scotland and Ireland. Thanks Ali, your lessons always teach me something new. Cheers from Brazil.

Wonderful! Great tips! I used to practise giving Oscar/Grammy speeches in English in my shower...it is silly but it forced me to make sentences in English and look for vocabulary everyday!
