Ice Hockey's Darkest Moment Caught on LIVE TV #shorts

Ice Hockey is a fast and thrilling game and it's easy to see why the players are so well protected with padded clothing.

However during a 1989 NHL game the protective clothing failed to stop Clint Malarchuk sustaining a life threatening injury that was witnessed by millions during a live broadcast.

Clint’s neck had been sliced with a skate blade cutting his carotid artery and partially slicing his jugular vein. With blood gushing out of his neck onto the ice, many spectators were physically sick or fainted. Remarkably Clint got up and walked off the ice, and his life was saved due to quick action by the Sabres' athletic trainer, Jim Pizzutelli, who served in the Vietnam War. He gripped Malarchuk's neck and pinched off the artery, not letting go until doctors arrived to begin stabilising the wound.

RIP Adam Johnson. Clint could have ended up passing as well. Thankfully Jim was there to save his life. Every hockey team needs someone who knows how to handle a situation like this.

In the last seconds of the video we can see the players and referees arguing amongst themselves while the wounded one is bleeding profusely. Thank goodness the injured one was able to skate away to seek help.

I was at this game and people in the stands were throwing up and I couldn't finish my beer. It was all so surreal. I'll never forget this day only to see Richard Zednik from the Florida Panther suffer a similar accident, also in Buffalo. Unfortunate accidents in both cases and glad to see both men recover. The latest "accident" involving Adam Johnson was truly tragic. The league should look into mandatory neck protection. Rest in Peace Adam.

He returned to the ice 2 months later. Never the same man. He struggled with drugs and alcohol abuse after this and could never find his game again.
A few years later he attempted to take his own life with a shot gun. He shot himself as his wife walked in the room. Completely missed his brain and the shot gun metal came out through the nose and eye.
He survived an attempted suicide. If that doesn't tell you it's not your time I don't know what would.

This is my hometown team in Buffalo. This has only happened twice in the NHL and the other time was also in Buffalo. It was a forward and not a goalie. He was hit by the skate of his own player in the neck. He was rushed off the ice and the game was paused until the announcement that he was in stable condition at the hospital.

I had a motorcycle accident October 1st 2023. I was riding with combat veterans. The guy behind me was a medic and the guy behind him was as well. They both stabilized my neck and got me through until the ambulance arrived. God bless them all!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
