NEVER TOO SMALL: Stargazing Off Grid Tiny House, Australia - 19sqm/204sqft

Designed and built by the talented team at ample, Stella is a uniquely Victorian mobile tiny home built using salvaged and repurposed material from an original farm shack. A three kilowatt solar system, 4000 liter water tank and her own septic storage system make Stella completely off grid. The star of the show is the queen sized sleeping platform that seamlessly rolls out into the open sky on a set of industrial rollers. This clever design also opens up space to allow the mobile dining table to be easily moved from the kitchen area into the living area, where the complimentary banquet seating creates a bespoke dining area whilst also freeing up space in the kitchen. Stella is all about quality over quantity and showcases the superior results that can be achieved with upcycled and hand-made materials, a reframing of what luxury is.

I love the ideas behind the design of this shed and the vista is magnificent. But fear I would be driven mad by flies and mosquitoes due to the lack of fly screens.

Having a bed that can roll out so you can sleep under the stars is an extraordinary and unique architectural feature! The space is so well thought out and manages to be as beautiful as it is functional, and I love the weathered recycled corrugated iron. If I didn't live half way the otherside of the world I would definitely stay here!

This is unapologetically a vacation home and it does a beautiful job. I can see some creative holing up in this for a few months to work on their next book, or similar. I share the concerns about the bugs - being arachnophobic and living in Australia is tricky business 😅 - but I feel it wouldn't be too hard to rig up some kind of mosquito netting solution for the flying biteys at least. Would be lovely in summer.

Just by watching this my mood got so elevated. Incredibly inspiring design. Would love to be able to escape in here. There's not a single thing that's lacking in this lovely haven. Nothing else you need. It you don't have a big family, you don't have to build anything more than a tiny house like that to have a wonderful place to rest and reconnect with nature.

I recognised Aaron Shields straight away. His previous build is one of my all time favourite tiny/small mobile builds and this one, of course is just as wonderful. The Stargazer is another outside-the-box design I would LOVE to experience - very much fit their own brief there! I love that both builds are made from recycling what is already on the land and would otherwise go to land fill. And the view from this one is like no other. Such a warm, sympathetic and authentic build and location. I find myself now eager to see what Aaron comes up with next. I'm a super fan and not afraid to admit it 😎
