Benj Pasek and Justin Paul talk about being composers in the age of Youtube. They also perform a song from an upcoming show, and talk about why the online formats are great, but not quite enough.

They are also the composers behind the Off-Broadway musical Dogfight, a Best New Musical nominee for the Drama League, Lucille Lortel and Outer Critics Circle awards.

I met Justin, his wife and 1 year old daughter on the subway when I was living in New York. As a songwriter and script writer for musicals myself it was so wonderful to meet this accomplished guy. Also one of the sweetest guys ever. Plus he told me it doesn't matter how well you can play the piano but how well you can write a catchy tune and compelling words

These two are wonderful. Their musicals are some of my favorite things ever. I love Dear Evan Hansen, Dogfight, and The Greatest Showman so much. These two are some of my biggest idols.

That is so cool to see old videos of composers sampling now full fledged musicals. I got to see Jason Robert Brown do a concert after a production of The Last Five Years and he played music from his now full musical Honeymoon in Vegas and it was so cool when it came out later to have experienced it before!

It’s been awhile since i got excited with musicals after jc superstar of andrew lloyd weber UNTIL THESE 2 KIDS STARTED WRITING REALLY GOOD MUSIC, AND I AM A CLASSICAL MUSIC LOVER, STUDENT, PLAYER AND TOTALLY ANNOYED WITH POP, hiphop, altpop, alt hiphop, whatever🤦🏻‍♀️.I am just so glad jazz came along and kids like these 2 started writing music and saving humanity like the classic masters(mozart, bach, bethoven, etc. ) composers used to do.
