I get the feeling that Jay because of how his generation of men in America was brought up that he's just not sure how to show the same affection that manny shows him. But that he deeply loves him. That Manny isn't just Gloria's child from her first marriage. That Jay sees him as fully his kid. That if Manny ever needed something Jay would do it. I think he feels that way for Mitchel and Clair. I just really find that sweet. Mostly because my dad was kinda like Jay. He wasn't always sure how to show emotion but he loved me and my brother with all his heart.
