Single handledly the best heavy infantry is the legion of the betrayeds troops. Highly suggest any players who are starting a new playthrough to capture as many as you can and bring them into your army. I usually keep 100-150 of them mixed with fians and vlandian corssbows as support and as many imperial horsearchers I can get. I also pair a secondary light infantry line of about 50-75 to compliment the heavies when they are loosing cohesion on either side of the line to reinforce my hold.
Edit: The light infantry can be any tier 3 infantry preferably one with throwing weapons such as the battainans.

I love being empire and being horse lord with so many elite imperial caterphracts idk how to spell it they really good in my opinion as cav and infantry for sieges

Sturgian heavy spearmen mixed with heavy axemen and Heroic line breakers will forever be the best infantry force in my opinion

Sturgians are the best, anyone who tells you otherwise doesnt know how to read the stats. They are literal shock infantry in heavy armor and perfect shield wall.

I remember the days when Imperial Elite Menavliatons could kill any troop in the game with a single swing.

I've found with my most recent play through that a mix of 40% legionnaires 40% sturgian heavy spears and 20% axes is pretty much unstoppable once in sheild wall. The round shields block projectiles amazingly, cav gets slaughtered by the spears and inf is decimated by the legionnaires

I usually run imp legionaries as infantry. They used to be God-tier because they were almost unkillable but I still run them as cannon fodder since they still live a good while and are cheaper, easier, and more plentiful to find than other infantry I've tried
