The Schrödinger's Cat thought experiment was meant to show how quantum theory was misinterpreted. But nearly a century later, the answer is different. Hannah Fry explains.

It’s not in 2 states - it’s in quantum state - it’s not in several states or no state. It just makes sense to call it 2 states - if you going to measure 1 out of 2 states.

Reminds me of a cytokine storm upon death or perception of being close to death. It's kind of like the body's way of trying to purge itself of everything by poisoning itself with a neurotoxin.

Old tv's used to be like this aswell. The fuzzy screen supposedly random until a signal is found. Funny thing is the noise of turning the old cable TV dials is a bit like tuning into other channels, not neccesarily a TV signal, but perhaps a noise of people and their thoughts if filtered out. You could imagine that noise a bit like all sorts of channels in which there may be short signals relative to range/proximity and the many things which affect signals and connections. In theory if you could track a particle such as those which are emitted by a TV screen, you could utilise such things (like a cat in a box) to observe the changes in a given situation/environment. In theory quantum teleportation is just something which takes a path. Knowing the particles in an environment should mean there a way to know the path taken to escape the environment. We know heat loss and sensitivity is an issue, but are lifeforms concidered I wonder? There are likely to be lifeforms or some of their genetics contained in materials, so it makes sense they may be small enough to still be alive and function as conduits. 🤔

If the options are not knowing if the cat is alive or dead, then that lights on or off or light in the dark sort of position were extended. If you think in terms of gene expression, there are multiple options beyond the cat form if you concider diversity of felines and compare the common genes shared with humans and things. 🤔

I don’t know if people are not hearing what the speaker is saying here, or maybe some people desire to be in a confused state. You have no idea how many times people presented this thought experiment to me as if Schrödinger actually believed in such a state as the cat being alive and dead at the same time until we actually observe it, I had thought it was so bizarre, so i looked it up. In short, Schrödinger used the “cat” thought experiment to show the absurdity of existing in two states simultaneously. 😂

If the box is made of glass..we can see that the cat is actually dead or not ..just saying

If that’s literally true, how does opening the box change anything? ;) Both the cat and the detector that triggers the poison are macro objects. Doesn’t the measurement occur when the detector interacts with the particle, and not when a human opens the box?

That explains why I love & hate people at the same time…😂

Hannah, you need to make some more telly progs, the drivel that’s on uk telly is soul destroying .

IIRC, the radioactive particle is there as a source of randomness. It’s the randomness of a system that puts it into a superposition is states.

Measuring/ observing fixes the state

One of my favorite paradoxes. Because, it displays the abilities of human thought within the quantum...

Is this what you guys are doing at Springfield?

In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the
cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat
could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
