Pre-announced prices for $40k are a big mistake for EV carmakers. If they promise a certain price it builds a lot of anger 2 years later when it finally hits the road at $70k.

Driving stick is actually super easy. You just need to stay calm and get the feel. Also replacing a clutch is way cheaper than a transmission and pretty straightforward.

The only practical way to really learn how to drive a stick is to buy a manual vehicle and drive it relatively long-term. It takes a few weeks to get the hang of it, especially considering driving in different weather conditions & terrain. You can nail the basics down and go a while without driving one, but it will be a rough ride next time you try. Drive one for a couple months daily, and you'll have the habit down for life.
It's a bit of an art form. Keep it in neutral as much as possible, never hold the clutch down when stopped, don't downshift because it's a silly waste of gas... Stuff like that. Zach should pull the trigger and buy one because they're a blast, even the little economy ones.

My first car was a stick (89 Mazda 323) and I'm still driving a manual to this day, 23 years later.

It’s noon here in New Jersey where we talk again about how the car market is crashing but nothing is changing with prices.

Zach, I was a 20 yr. old stationed at George AFB in Victorville, CA working the graveyard shift. I wanted to buy an MGB but didn't know how to drive a stick. At around 2:30 am the guys in our shop decided we wanted to get some fast food from base ops. A sergeant took me with him and had me drive his stick shift car. It wasn't as hard as I had imagined and today at 75 yrs of age, I am the proud owner of a 1950 MGTD which is, of course, stick shift. Now get out there and show everyone how quickly you can learn to drive a stick.

😅😂 If you remember that far back, when Ford announced the full size Bronco (which really isnt full size), it was billed as the "Jeep Wrangler Killer" and Jeep would NEVER sell another Wrangler. The mid trim Bronco was supposed to sell for $35k, have great performance spec's and we would all live happily ever after. Fast forward to today, the performance spec's NEVER materialized, and the team that established the pricing, were all high on cocaine.

I have a black or red Porsche 911. If you cover the potential clutch damage then I offer you learning on one of the Porsche 911s. I fully oem 911 or the red one with a stage 2 clutch and short shifter. There is also the Shelby GT350 but that will be too easy to learn on with the 2 second brake holding tech. Hill start assist If I recall the tech name.

"The public" is not stupid. The public just doesn't know the profit spread on a vehicle and how much the company paid for the used vehicle and then how much preparation went into the vehicle. Todays car buyers are very smart and often very informed as they shop online and make sure the price is good to great.

Zach if you can do a marathon than learning stick shift is nothing

I also think it’s interesting how the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-e is also not being released until “early 2025”

I have bought cars & trucks at the end of November and end of December. I got more off MSRP in November.

An 86% increase in Ford Lightning sales sounds impressive but must be meaningless if they are paying dealers to take them and shutting down the assembly line for six weeks.

Please do the research before the show to make that number mean something. Or show that it is meaningless. Perhaps that means a chart showing sales numbers by quarter for the period that it has been sold.

I learned to drive a stick shift fiftyish years ago. If I can do it so can Zach. It can be fun until you are in stop ‘n go traffic.

I sold my 2015 Camaro SS to a autonation after getting a price from carvana and carmax. Carmax lowballed me and carvana did $2000 better. After a little negotiation, I did receive a $3000 better offer from Toyota autonation. The downside was it took 3 hours. So I got $5000 more than carmax offered and $3000 more than carvana. This transaction took place in June 2022.

The Cybertruck sales, I believe, are a temporary blip. Once the "New/Shiny" element of this vehicle dies down, it's sales will slump down below the Lightening. I own a Tesla M3. If I had to buy a truck right now for ANY reason, Cybertruck would be last on the list. They just don't cut the mustard in any way shape or form, other than the "Look at me!" factor. I think the Lightening is a good offering, but needs improvement. I could see myself buying one... but they need to quickly incorporate the latest battery and manufacturing technology in order to increase range and reduce the price. As a happy and enthusiastic EV owner, I think EV's will have growing, but limited, sales appeal until auto companies here in the U.S. can offer an EV with at least 400 miles of REAL-World range, charge 10-80% in 15 minutes or less, at a reasonable price for most buyers, they will never over take ICE cars.
