The PAL-V Liberty is the world's first production legal flying car on sale.

The flying car developer announced that the PAL-V Liberty, its 3-wheel gyrocopter, is now for sale, with first deliveries expected by the end of 2018.

In the air, the Liberty can climb to a maximum altitude of 3500m. Its 197hp flying engine can propel it up to a top speed of 112mph (180 kph).

The drive mode engine has 99 horsepower and a top speed of 100mph (160kph), with 0-62mph (100kph) sprint taking 9.0 secondes.

The standard Liberty Sport model starts at $399,000/€299,000. The Pioneer Edition, which comes with added options and is limited to 90 vehicles, costs $599,000/€499,000. Both come with introductory training lessons and power heating, according to PAL-V’s website. Operators need a gyroplane pilot’s license to fly the vehicle.

To reserve a Liberty of your own, you will have to front a $10,000 or $25,000 nonrefundable deposit for the Sport and Pioneer, respectively. The company is also accepting $2,500 refundable deposits to put customers on a waiting list.

The problem with flying cars is that they kinda aren't cars and if they were, we would have to figure out a traffic system in the sky if it caught on.

Dunno why so many people in the comments think it's dumb. Seems like they're randomly mad that it flies like a helicopter. That's a dumb and meaningless reason to dislike it.

As of 7 march 2018 the list price is $621, 500. That is CRAZY. For $120k you can get a Autogyro Cavalon and use the other $500k for a Lambo.

Just as every other "flying car" ever designed, it isn't a flying car, it's a driving flying machine, in this case it's a road-legal helicopter.

You can't take off from your house unless you live on a ranch. And if you got a ranch means you're rich. If you're rich you don't need a "roadable gyrocopter". It's way too slow to be practical. You still need an airstrip to land. The rotor is the same hazard as helicopter. You have to follow FAA rules which means take off and land from airport. So you drive this thing to airport just to take off? Stupid. Anyone who has flown general aviation knows that you don't just pop in and out of airports and go off driving in a jiffy. There are flight plans to be filed. Tower/ground control communications, other traffic in the air, running your fuel consumption calculations, watching engine management, etc. It ain't like driving on the freeway and pulling over if you have a problem. Wake up people. Flying vehicles are not cars. They have higher stress rates, they all have TBO rates and schedules. Things break. Goodluck with a dead stick landing even in an autogyro over a school yard. Aha. Lawsuit from the parents of the kid you decapitated. Flying cars could be a reality 1000 years from now when the whole infrastructure is made for them.

The body is from the Carver One leaning three-wheel car. Now it has evolved into the PAL-V. I was hoping the Carver could more commercial success and available in the states. Unfortunately it never blossoms into reality.

First flying car was the "Maverick", invented by Steve Saint. Sold for $94, 000, flew at 40knots and drove at 80miles per hour and can drive off roads so you can take off and land where space is limited. This is more sophisticated. Not the first though.

What is the expected range of this on the ground and in the air? Why Is there two motors in this one for ground the other for air seems like a problem unless the other can be used as a back up in case of main failure in flight?
