**UPDATE** I just put an additional 16 GB of RAM in the open slot and now I have a total of 32 GB DDR4-3200 RAM running in dual channel mode and right off the bat I am seeing better numbers especially multicore scores. I will show in the review coming up.

What if I didn’t want to game on it, is getting the i7-11850h with integrated intel uhd graphics worth it? Like without the nvidia gpu. I’m assuming my battery life would be rlly good if I did go with that option.

I plan to go traveling abroad so I chose the X1 Extreme 16' over the XPS 17' because of its build quality, durability and discreet all black look. I really like the design and screen size of the XPS but it's not going to be something I want to bring with me while I travel.

@Chintan Patel - Website might allow to configure a 3060 with second SSD, but what really happens, is, that the configuration will be switched within the page. I was also confused by this, and then I saw it - I didn't choose a 2nd SSD, and I had an option to pick a 3060, so I picked it. Then I decided to add a 2nd SSD, and only then I noticed that my configuration was changed to 3050 Ti, with no option to choose 3060.

Is the video output soldered to the Nvidia gpu in models with Nvidia gpu? Is it possible to turn off the Nvidia gpu in UEFI and connect external monitors?

Us Linux folks often prefer to rely on Intel gpu drivers, and the configurations without Nvidia gpu tend to be hard to get in certain parts of the world.

thinkpad trackpads are off-center to align with the 'nub' (trackpoint). When you're typing, that is the center. So for people that use the keyboard a lot, and the trackpoint/trackpad as a secondary input, this works well.
It is not that annoying even for people who don't type a lot.

Hi AMD I think the problem that the guy is facing with the build quality is because he opened the laptop and then put it back together. I notice that with most Thinkpads. When you open then and put them back together things can go south with the case in terms of creaking and noises. I have been using Thinkpads for a long time so I can tell you it is real. I don't know if Lenovo use robots to put these systems together but whatever even they are doing we can't put them back perfectly. Try for yourself.

The available configurations seem to change from week to week.

Someone looking at Lenovo's site right now wouldn't know that an RTX 3080 option even exists. And there's no i9 (which was only available bundled with the 3080).

Three weeks before I bought the X1E, I configured a machine on Lenovo's Australian site with an RTX 3070 and _two_ SSD slots. The one I purchased in August had an RTX 3070 which had that vapor chamber and only 1 SSD slot; I had no idea until I opened it up.

No machine is perfect, but the X1E presented too many downgrades when compared with previous generations in areas which were important to me: No OLED option, no touchscreen, (possibly) no wide-gamut display coverage (if the 4K display coverage is like the 2K), inferior keyboard (design of which is reportedly borrowed from a Legion model), and only 1 SSD slot (It's not about total amount of storage, it's the performance advantage of using separate boot and data drives).

And there are other areas reviewers typically don't discuss which I can't assume would have turned out to as good as the previous models -- let alone improved. For example, a good headphone amp shouldn't be taken for granted; just ask an owner of a Razer laptop.

Machine I got after returning the X1E has the same i7 11800H CPU, an RTX 3060, _two_ PCIe 4 SSD slots, a 16" wide-gamut touchscreen display with 120Hz refresh rate, Hi-Res Audio. This is much more in-line with what I had expected from the X1E but didn't get.

I have seen people say laptops with Thunderboilt 4 ports an use an external GPU. However. I haven't seen much about what the externalGPUs are and there performance. A video with this laptop and an external GPU might be of interest.

It does look like the 3060 + 11800H allows for a second ssd on Lenovo's configurator, like someone pointed out during the video. (not sure if this is a mistake, or if they will actually ship it this way.)
Will be interesting to see if that has vapor chamber cooling. (My guess would be no)
