I don't know if this has been said in the comments already but I spoke with my dad who had watched this episode today in syndication and he told me that Judy awarded the plaintiff the full 5k.

Had to share with the fellow Judy watchers who I *know* it was driving nuts to not have the conclusion.

I think she knew he was recording their date, but I think she thought it was for posting later. I don't think she realized that it was being streamed live or that she would be forced to listen to people's belittling comments all through the date. He's the worst kind of jerk and I get the feeling he doesn't pick these dates based on who he is attracted to. I think he picks the dates based on who he thinks will be ridiculed the most. That's what gets his viewers and that's what gets him money. He intended to use her in the worst way right from the start. That's why he started picking on her within the first few minutes, trying to make her look bad. He was definitely exploiting her, and he was doing it for money.

In November 2019, Uechi and Zhang went on the daytime television show Judge Judy to argue the claims. Judy believed that Uechi was in the wrong and hadn't properly explained that he would be livestreaming, awarding Zhang $5, 000.
