I am a huge remake fan... But what about it was better than Rebirth? Perhaps the more linear nature?

For anyone who might wonder why in the hell would anyone prefer Remake, let me say this as someone who actually prefers Remake. I personally prefer Midgar as a setting. I prefer the more limited party where you get more time to really delve into each and anyone in a way Rebirth simply doesn't allow you to do. It feels more intimate and I love that. I felt like the characterization of everyone was a little tighter and no one was left out, whereas some characters get a bit sideways in Rebirth like Red XIII and Aerith mainly imo (and I say that as a massive Aerith fan). Quality writing over quantity writing. The story rarely fully stops in Remake which, for someone who really struggles with side content, was a blessing. While the sidequests are obviously garbage, the simple fact that you get so much less of them was great. Also, the chapters fully lends into a limited set of emotions, which adds a nice emotional flow to it all. Chapter 9 is entirely silly, while 12 and 13 are dramatic, etc. and the game lets you sit on an emotion instead of constantly throwing you around for an insane ride where every chapter is 100% full on pure insanity trying to stuff as many individual emotion as possible in every chapter. Rebirth felt very overwhelming to me in that sense and like a constant perpetual emotional whiplash which just made it harder to get fully invested at a certain point. It also becomes very predictable when you know that every chapter is going to be insane and if every chapter is insane, then it diminishes the value of every one being that way, whereas Remake strikes a nice balance between insanity and quieter moments, moments that build up momentum and tension and those that release it in a way that is natural, cathartic and lets it be that way instead of immediately throwing you into your next adventure without giving you a second to breathe. I also felt like most dungeons were still fairly padded, which was not a lot better than Remake in that sense. The reactor in chapter 9, the trial in 10, the mansion in 11, the temple in 13 could have all been like 25-30% shorter still, which isn't scoring a lot better than Remake in my book. The bosses also felt more generic and in many cases lacked the sense of occasion and novelty Remake bosses had (Scorpion Sentinel, Roche, Airbuster, Hell House, Jenova, Rufus, etc.), the game just had so much of them. Rebirth also really struggles techincally in a way that very often ruined my immersion. The lighting looked absolutely horrendous on my screen for like 85% of the game, the ghosting was very agressive and distracting and the game in performance mode looked like such a blurry disaster I couldn't stand playing it that way and had to go graphics mode. Techincally speaking Remake on the PS5 was nearly flawless to me with my only issue being some exterior lighting looking slightly flat during the day, but other than that I still consider it as one of the best looking game ever made, something I sadly still cannot say about Rebirth. I don't think Rebirth is a bad game by any mean. It has better (I'd go as far as to even say perfect or at least flawless) combat, way better side content, a huge amount more content and a good story that will pull all of the emotional strings, but was also incredibly unwieldy, bloated overwhelming and unsatisfying to me in ways that Remake wasn't and some people, like me, quite simply prefer it the other way around and no amount of arguing will likely change how these game made me *feel* about them, not their objective qualities which I can absolutely recognize. I get why people prefer Rebirth, but I don't and I hope people can respect it that way just as I can respect their very own preference.

The boss fight executions here are a bit more tamed and less cinematic than FF7 Remake. I still can’t get over the Air Buster, Hell House and The Arsenal boss fight. Almost all of them. It feels like a movie.

Honestly surprised you liked remake more. I guess it's a tighter experience but the gameplay is definitely less good, as are the side quests and dungeons. The sheer variety just makes it more of a blast to play.

Tried to play this game but by god the voice acting is too corny for my liking had to turn it off was like playing a kids game but worse
