World's deepest sinkhole

Scientists just discovered the deepest sinkhole in the world off the coast of the Paracel Islands, disputed territory in the South China Sea. The Sansha Yongle Blue Hole is almost 1,000 feet deep, breaking the previous record of Dean’s Blue Hole in the Bahamas.

when did the record holder change, and why? was it because this one grew deeper and deeper until it beat the depth of the previous winner? was it because this one was more recently discovered? if the latter, then it seems like the title should read "world's deepest known sinkhole".

Edit: TTStyle Even though google says it's China's
the "South China Sea" as you said, belongs to the Exclusive economic zone of the philippines. At least study about boundaries first before commenting something like that.
