"The only thing worse that having Alain Prost in front of you is having Alain Prost behind you."

It's worth remembering that Prost changed his style in 180° (he used to be really daring) after watching Didier Pironi almost lose his legs in a career-ending accident right in front of him at Hockenheim 1982. He was really affected by it and he forced himself to become a more calculating driver (perhaps the best ever at it).

Whenever Ayrton won, to the people it was magic, the work of a genius performing art.
Whenever Prost won, people said it was the car, luck, or anything else.
But the truth is, Alain was every bit as good a driver. And in an era full with legends of the sport, he stood out as the most successful, even if not the most popular.

I met him on person, talked with him few minutes.. What an elegant and educate man. RESPECT for Prost, for the champion he is and so much important, for the unreal skills he showed. One of the greatest!

I was 16 years old in 1996 when I switched schools and end up at Prost's son school in Switzerland. I have always been a fan of Prost, played Geoff Crammond GP sims series and would not miss a GP on TV. On day after school, Prost came to pick up his son. No one dare or wanted to salute him because in Switzerland there is high respect for privacy and also because some rich families (mine is not wealthy) feel that they are too superior to bow in front of another family. I did not care and could not believe my eyes, he was there, this amazing and clever 4 times world champion. I had a binder with 50 blank sheets of paper and I approach Alain for an autograph. He smelled alcohol that day :-) (maybe the champagne from another life victory). He was very kind, signed my paper and the moment I finished shaking hands all the kids around came to ask for an autograph and my 50 blank sheets binder was emptied :-) I lost the autograph, but I hope one day I will meet him again now that I also do F3 in a club for fun. Like Senna said, we missed you Alain.

What strikes me the most when watching all of Prost’s videos is the cleanliness of his driving.
We never have the feeling that he is at the limit and yet, he is there.

What about South Africa 1982? Where he blew one of his tyres, changed it, fell a lap down, unlapped himself, overtook the entire field to eventually win the race? It's really a forgotten gem of his driving, and sheer determination.

Some brazilians (not everyone) seems to dislike Prost because all the rivalry with Ayrton. Personally, I see Prost as a true legend and a true gentlemen. Prost will always be one of the greatest. Respect for the Professor!

This was the golden era. And to win 4 world championships at that. It was the stuff of legends.

Thanks I dont't think I had ever seen the footage of Prost's double overtake on Senna and Hill in one glorious sweep at San Marino. Both daring and smart. That was a superb answer to all the critics he received after the Donington's grand prix, showing that at 38 he could still step out of his comfort zone and "drive on the wet" when he decided to.

As a kid, I worshiped Senna, but as an adult, it is Alain Prost I admire most.

The way he masterminded a race back at that time was brilliant, in a race distance he was unquestionably the fastest.
