I'm not particularly religious but when she signs "To love another person is to see the face of God" I fall in love

I love the parallel between Empty Chairs and Empty Tables and the Epilogue when Marius sings "Here they sang about tomorrow and tomorrow never came" but then in the Epilogue everybody sings together "Tomorrow Comes" and it's like the last thing in the movie.

As soon as I heard "Do you Hear the People Sing?" I just lost it. I don't know what it is about it but it just pulls at the feelings.

"a man who only learned to love when you were in his keeping." That's just beautiful.

"To love another person is to see the face of God."
God, the entire story in a single line. Makes me emotional; something so simple and yet so profound, something we never seem to realize in life.

It is so rare to be as profoundly affected as I was when this song played. What a finale. What a film.

Tbh when I first saw this movie I completely fell in love with the barricade boys and when they sing "Do You Hear the People Sing" at the end I completely lost it

Me: I'm not going to cry. I'm not going to cry this time.
**Do You Hear The People Sing starts up**
Me: FUCK THIS.

When Victor Hugo wrote the story of Les Miserables, he said that he wrote it to show a transition from material to ethereal, body to spirit, good to evil, man to God. I'm paraphrasing there, but look it up on Wikipedia, or, if you've got tough skin, try reading the book itself. Great stuff.

I just cried from beginning to the end of the whole epilogue scene when I first saw this in theaters
Like the moments when Fantine comes back as a spirit, Valjean place his hand on Marius's cheek, Valjean dies, Fantine and Bishop leads him to salvation and everyone who died including Fantine and Valjean in heaven all together
Through the WHOLE thing is where I was done for
This is one of the most tear jerking films I ever seen in the universe
I just love this movie so much and I'll treasure this story forever

FANTINE
Monsieur, I bless your name

VALJEAN
I am ready Fantine!

FANTINE
Monsieur, lay down your burden

VALJEAN
At the end of my days

FANTINE
You've raised my child with love

VALJEAN
She's the best of my life

FANTINE
And you will be with God

COSETTE
Papa, papa, I do not understand
Are you all right?
Why did you go away

VALJEAN
Cosette, my child
Am I forgiven now?
Thank god, thank god
I've lived to see this day

MARIUS
It's you who must forgive a thoughtless fool
It's you who must forgive a thankless man
It's thanks to you that I am living
Again I lay down my life at your feet
Cosette, your father is a saint
When they wounded me
He took me from the barricade
Carried like a babe
And brought me home
To you

VALJEAN
Now you are here
Again beside me
Now I can die in peace
For now my life is blessed

COSETTE
You will live,
Papa, you're going to live
It's too soon, too soon to say goodbye!

VALJEAN
Yes, Cosette, forbid me now to die
I'll obey
I will try
On this page
I write my last confession
Read it well when
I, at last, am sleeping
It's the story
Of one who turned from hating
The man who only learned to love
When you were in his keeping

FANTINE
Come with me
Where chains will never bind you
All your grief
At last, at last behind you
Lord in Heaven
Look down on him in mercy

VALJEAN
Forgive me all my trespasses
And take me to your glory

FANTINE
Take my hand
I'll lead you to salvation
Take my love
For love is everlasting

VALJEAN, FANTINE AND THE BISHOP
And remember
The truth that once was spoken
To love another person
Is to see the face of God

PEOPLE
Do you hear the people sing
Lost in the valley of the night?
It is the music of a people
Who are climbing to the light

For the wretched of the earth
There is a flame that never dies
Even the darkest night will end
and the sun will rise

They will live again in freedom
In the garden of the Lord
We will walk behind the ploughshare;
We will put away the sword
The chain will be broken
And all men will have their reward

Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Somewhere beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?

Do you hear the people sing?
Say, do you hear the distant drums?
It is the future that we bring
When tomorrow comes!

Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Somewhere beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?

Do you hear the people sing?
Say, do you hear the distant drums?
It is the future that we bring
When tomorrow comes!

Ah!
Ah!
Ah!
Tomorrow comes!

I've heard in the original playbill, the ending was supposed to be the final revolution of 1848, showing that all their death was not in vain, and in the end, their dream of a new world inspired others to change. <3

Honestly, this is the best film I have ever seen in my life. I was hysterical during this song.

Javert wasn't there because the ending of the movie does not represent heaven. It was shot as the barricade from the 1848 Paris uprising, with the 1832 ghosts in with the triumphant 1848 revolutionaries. Marius, Cosette, and the Thenardiers were also there, all older. During editing Hooper decided to change it and took out all the 1848 references, but that's what we're looking at in the ending. You can read the original 1848 ending in the screenplay, which is online.

I cried when I listen to this song again. Not because it made me felt so emotional, but because of that fact that I didn't get to see it in theaters.

I just saw this on Broadway and, though I've seen this musical many time: it is my favorite, I cried at the end. Nothing compares to professional performance.
