Maryland is super expensive. I grew up in the state (Montgomery County) and can’t afford to buy my childhood home. Good luck if you come here. And, yes, the traffic sucks.

I'm 66 yrs old and have lived in the Baltimore area my whole life. I recently spent a few years in the Midwest for some investments, and it made me appreciate the comparatively milder climate of the Old Line State, which, BTW, MD has no natural lakes. We are wealthy because it's all government money, and yes, our unofficial motto is, If You Can Dream It, We Can Tax It." MD even taxes the rain, no lie. And really *no one* retires and moves *TO* Maryland.

I grew up in Bowie, MD, Prince George's county. That was in the 70's and I feel very fortunate to have grown up during that era and Bowie was a safe place with lots of families with kids. I believe that Bowie was named the safest city in MD not long ago! I spent 30 years in Anne Arundel county on a peninsula. Loved raising my family there. For the last 8 years, I've been living in Howard County in Columbia. I cannot pick which county I like the best because they all have pros & cons. The state is very expensive and traffic is a big problem at rush hour. But, you can swim in the Atlantic in the am & be in the mountains hiking in the pm. I love the diversity of this small state. Each county is different with lots to explore.

The whole state is a fricking speed trap.

I do pest control in Maryland. They're are very few copperheads and they are not a problem at all. They're not aggressive. She's just afraid of snakes.

You are right about people referring to counties instead of cities. In Southern Maryland we always made a point to let people know we are from SOUTHERN Maryland. It’s been years since I’ve lived in MD (moved out in 2008 to join the army), but even to this day people will ask where I’m from. I don’t say Maryland, I say Southern Maryland. People are shocked and wonder, “does MD have a South?” Yes it does! lol

If Maryland would stop taxing your retirement and social security, people would stop moving out to cheaper areas

Lived in Maryland my whole life! Grew up in Anne Arundel, vacationed growing up at OC and up at Deep Creek Lake, then went to college on the Eastern Shore. I've had so many friends say "I hate Maryland there's nothing here" and I would say "you clearly have not traveled throughout Maryland". We have every season, we have the bay (and the Ocean), farmland, cities, forests, mountains, smaller cities/towns, we've got it all. I absolutely love it here but the only con is that it is getting pretty expensive. A lot of our family friends left and have wanted to come back but it's really hard to come back due to how pricey housing is and having to commute to DC or Baltimore to make enough (not everyone but most people I know).

Thanks for this video, it was a fun watch to see our MD get some love (:

Lifelong Marylander here. I love the state’s history. I love the state’s culture, I love the flag. I love the bay. I love crabs. I love the boating. I love the diversity of land. I love that we have both mountains and the ocean, the bay, the rolling hills in between it all, the rivers, the lakes, etc… However the biggest problem with this state is its governance. The rural and somewhat suburb counties are absolutely dominated and plundered by Baltimore City and its adjacent counties. I truly believe this state has corrupt people in its government and my evidence for that is how they have impossibly gerrymandered this state so that anyone who is not deep blue voter will never ever have a voice and will never get anything from the state that they might need. We are but tax cattle for the politicians who have manipulated the urbanites into granting them perpetual power, despite the fact that places like Baltimore only get worse and worse after nearly a century of absolute control by a single party. Just stop and think about how impossibly different places like Garrett county or most parts of the Eastern shore are from a place like Baltimore city. They have nothing in common, and the cities problems are not their problems, and the tax dollars of those of us in these areas will never be used for our benefit or for anything that people like us generally believe in. Meanwhile, taxes continue to go up, especially things like property tax, and it is truly beginning to feel like state sponsored piracy of which we are the victims. Sadly, there is absolutely nothing we can do about it other than leave which sucks because I otherwise love this state as I said. Now then, I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion, their own worldview, and of course their own vote based on their own conscience. I just wished the state government showed people like me that same respect and allowed us to have actual representation.

I’ve lived in Garrett County for most of my life. Here in “Mountain Maryland” we sometimes feel cut off from the rest of the state, but most of us still take pride in being one of Maryland’s best kept secrets. We experience every bit of each season. Crime is low. Traffic is almost nonexistent. Schools are good. There’s lots to do outdoors from boating, to hiking to snow skiing. The only bad thing, is it rains A LOT. Something’s gotta be done about the rain and maybe the 7 months of potential snow! 😂

Fellow Marylander living in Baltimore county, I can’t agree. The traffic here is awful (695) specifically

Those in the far west are more Pittsburgh focused, and the Northeast corner actually is in Philadelphia's orbit.

As someone who was born in Baltimore city and then went to school in Baltimore county ( Catonsville ) then went to Howard university in dc but moved to Montgomery county . The diversity in this state is insane . I miss Montgomery so bad but the housing prices are INSANE !!! I think my best bet is to move to a low cost state then save until I can actually decide where I want to raise a family

Born and raised here in Maryland, I used to be one who couldn't wait to get out of here. Probably falling in line with others and their opinions. It's expensive here but I love my state. I would never live in the city areas but there are some nice places with nice people. It's who you choose to mingle with!

I lived in Maryland way too long. Like anywhere else, it has its good and its bad.

Not a native…I was there because of career. Retired and left the state.
