I just imagine Tiamat in hell just flipping through Netflix, forever unable to find anything to watch because each head likes something different. That's why she's bound there.

*Hears a knock at the door. Goes to open it. Stares in awe as a Blue Dragon stands there in a button up shirt and tie.*

"Excuse me sir, but have you heard the good word of our lord and savior Tiamat?"

Damn. Okay, I'm sold, Cleric of Tiamat is my next character.

Next episode. "What they don't tell you about: Bahamut the metallic King"

"Is Tiamat a deity or just a unique legendary monster?"

That answer depends *heavily* on edition and campaign setting. XD

According to 5e's Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, "dracohydras are the result of arcane experimentation dedicated to recreating Tiamat's power." Of course, that book was published over a year after the making of this lore video. Great stuff!!

She’s treated by dragons as a mom, not a god. They even give her Mother’s Day gifts.

Earlier Rhexx said, he wasn't sure about long videos, but this seems dope

so basically, the queen and mother of dragons just has a draconic harem

Tiamat is so famous that she was just thrown into the D&D kids show.
A terribly underrated show

Interesting Story... When my group did the Tyranny of Dragons campaign, we actually stopped the ritual to summon Tiamat from completing. She was never summoned in our game.

So our Avernus campaign is going to be a bit more interesting since in the canon of our game she still has her Second Avatar.

Last time I was this early Tiamat wasn't stuck in Avernus.

I've always assumed that everything in the Nine Hells is a prisoner, even the lords themselves. Hell is a place of punishment, and just like how the Devil is a prisoner in ice in Dante's Inferno (the main inspiration for the Nine Hells concept), every demon lord is bound to their layer in some way and has limitations placed on their powers. That would explain the variance in the description of Tiamat's role in Avernus.

"The dragon
essence within the orb might want many things: the annihilation of a particular people, freedom from the
orb, to spread suffering in the world, to advance the
worship of Takhisis (Tiamat's name on Krynn), or something else the DM decides."
Page 225 of the DMG for 5th edition. So yeah, Takhisis IS Tiamat according to WotC. At least in 5e.

It's worth mentioning that the name "Tiamat" comes from the Sumerian creation myth; the god Enki slew her, and from her created the material world; from drops of his blood shed during this battle, humans were created (not D&D lore, but interesting).
