My man is comparing a sprinter of 100m and 200m with the pace of a marathon of 42km 💀

Usain bolt 100 meters. Jim Walmsley 100 MILES. Gee i wonder why they have a different steps per minute?

Of course sprinters are hitting higher cadence than ultramarathoners. Apples and oranges.

It's all relative to speed vs endurance

This is really silly. The evidence for appropriate and optimal cadence isn’t that everyone needs to sit at 180 and nobody here thinks that. But showing Isa on bolt at 270 and Walmsley at 160 or 170 isn’t proof of concept. They’re doing completely different things. There is good evidence to support that a cadence that is consistently too low for your height, mechanics, and speed causes greater soft tissue strain that can be mitigated by increasing the cadence. As always, individual variation will supersede generalisations…but on a population level this is true.

All the long distanve runners were close to 180 though. 186 is basically the same as 180 in this context.

I’m 6’4”, it makes no sense that I should have the same steps per minute as a runner that is 5’4”.

It's not a myth. The vast majority of us should be focusing on a high turnover as distance runners. And Bolt is comparing apples to oranges.

You have to calculate it with your distance and your leg length

Why would u put bolt on the list he’s a sprinter

It’s still very necessary to have a high cadence to achieve high speed.

186 for Marathon and 190 for some Ks seems damn close to 180🤣

People aren’t realizing he’s showing how your steps per minute depends on the distance you’re running 🤦‍♂️

For a run to be considered a run, both legs must have a moment where they are both above the ground

It's down to your Stride length, Speed and your Form.

Also the fact that so many in these comments are saying different reasons goes to show many people don't have a clue what they're talking about when it comes to the specifics of running like stride length and cadence

cadence varies based on height and speed

Everybody here that is saying that comparing two different types of runners is an idiot. The point of the video is to show that the ideal steps per minute is different for everybody and dependent on what type of running you are doing

God job guys, with your scientific explanations you did exactly what this channel wants to, create more reach. It was never about the sprinting and peace cadence, it was about you fighting over it.

While your point is somewhat valid, walmsley and bolt reveal your lack of knowledge or just blatant common sense. Comparing the two is just crazy foolish.
