Black Bean Brownies

Today I'm going to show you how to make high protein brownies without protein powder.

These black bean brownies are just as rich, fudgy, and delicious as regular brownies, but without all the sugar, fat and calories.

You can eat high protein brownies before or after your workout, or for dessert any time.

PROTEIN BROWNIES RECIPE
(makes 9 pieces)

Ingredients:
2 eggs
1/4 cup maple syrup (60ml)
2 tbsp peanut butter
1/4 cup milk (60ml)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup skyr (255g)
1 cup cooked black beans, mashed (170g)
1/2 cup ground oats or oat flour (50g)
1 tbsp cornstarch
1/2 cup cocoa powder (50g)
1/4 cup flaxseed meal (30g)
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon

NUTRITIONAL INFO (per piece):
154 calories, fat 5.1g, carb 20.3g, protein 10.1g

Preparation:
In a bowl whisk together eggs, maple syrup, peanut butter, milk, vanilla, skyr and mashed black beans.

Sift in the dry ingredients: ground oats, cornstarch, cocoa powder, flaxseed meal, baking powder, salt and cinnamon.

Gently fold in with a spatula, just until the batter is formed.

Pour the mixture in a lined 8x8 inch (20x20cm) square pan, smooth the top and shake the pan a bit.

Bake at 350F (180C) for 25 minutes.

Let it cool in a pan (for at least 2 hours) then slice into 9 or 12 equal pieces.

These brownies store really well in the fridge, for up to a week.

I see what you're doing Sasha. Most protein brownie recipes on the internet are normal brownie recipes that also call for protein powder but you however have done the research and devised an entirely protein powder free recipe. Honestly Good on you! I truly hope your protein series get way more views. You deserve it

I finally made these brownies . It tastes awesome and guilt free, it also gave me a lot of energy. I used sweet potatoes coz that's what l had at hand .

It’s great to see that someone tries to incorporate more protein but using natural ingredients. I personally have like 3 bags of protein powder and I absolutely hate each one of them. It is fine at first, but in a while it just becomes too sickly and also isn’t digested very well.

Hello~ It's my first time baking this recipe (or baking at all) and I just wanted to say thanks for this recipe! I'd been looking for a brownie recipe that could give my partner protein when he goes to the gym instead of the ones that used protein powder and I think this packs a punch! Honestly I didn't have a difficult time with this except for the black beans (first time boiling it and mashing it).

Subbed in regular yoghurt for skyr, honey for maple syrup and low fat milk for milk, and I didn't include the flaxseed meal cuz I didn't have it.

For sweet tooth people, if you're using honey instead of maple syrup, you might want to add more honey instead as the brownie was a lot less sweet - so it might be great for people who prefer less sweet options but if you prefer something a bit more sweet do add more honey!

Yum, Sasha can't help but churn out another winner. I had a recipe for Black Bean Brownies, but this one looks way better and higher in protein. The unhealthy brownies scare me so much because of the fat and sugar content, so much so that l never succeeded to bake any nice brownie, all of them were a disaster. I can't wait to try your recipe Sasha .
