Maannn. Ive been dj-ing for a few years. I wish i had seen this video in the beginning of my journey. It would have saved me a lot of time. Everything he says is spot on. Well explained. All you new guys starting out pay attention to this man

Once i learned to count beats, bars and phrases properly I practiced by counting in my head, muting the volume on what ever source of music i had playing and un muting whenever i taught there would be a phrase change. It has worked wonders for me regardless what genre of music I'm playing.

DJ TLM explains better than my tutor at the DJ School.IF only I knew I would have not paid the school but listened to DJ LTM for free.

Beat matching by ear is like learning stick, a little time and practice and it comes as second nature.

I'm using XDJ-700's which have the BPM counter but I'm gonna cover it with some paper and tape to train my ears. Great explanation of the pitch riding technique, much more clear than others. Gonna put your techniques in to practice tomorrow when I have the time, cheers.

As someone that used this and a few other vids to get my beat matching right and now agonizes at being even the tiniest fraction out of perfect sync, thank you
EDIT: Especially the part about switching to using the snare, made mixing boom bap sooo much easier

It's great to see new blood learning these old school tricks of the trade and passing them on to the next generation. Makes this old man feel good about being a DJ back in the day.

Its funny your introduction sums up the last 11 months of my development as a DJ. I went for a controller first, loved sync, got bored and learned to beat match by ear. I have also had the pleasure of spinning vinyl and I think saying that the process is more organic when you beat match yourself, is probably the closest you can get to how I now feel about the whole DJ experience. What you said about sync maybe not working and having the ability to fall back on using you ears is the exact reason my (older) DJ friends nagged me that much !!

Thank you so much for the best video I've found so far on getting more technically skilled with my turntables ~ I wasn't expecting to see SEVERAL different techniques, concisely broken down & presented so clearly! Your dedication to the craft is obvious & contagious!
And your no-nonsense delivery is giving me confidence ~ like there's a clear Game Plan now & yeah, I've got this!
👍🙏✌️

DJ TLM yours is the first tutorial that I've watched that makes sense. Especially your video on Counting the beats. Although this a hobby for me. I play at open deck nights and I want my technical use of the turntables to be more polished. Thanks and get well soon 👌

Not everyone likes to use computers though. its 2016 and thank God I finally got my plx 1000s in November last year. I'm using serato cuz where i live its impossible to get real vinyl so my closet option is absolute mode but your boy is still learning how to DJ old school. after i load a track i dont look on the laptop screen no more. no bpm watching also. i ditched serato DJ and went for scratch live for more of the old school feel. no disrespect to rane but serato DJ looks like something for kids. anyway some of us still love the old school way.... so much so i wish I'd started djing in the 90s. shout out djTLM

Great video. Thanks for sharing.  Just to add, people do not realize that you still can train wreck using the sync function.
