I wonder if aliens are also looking at our planet thinking it might have the potential for life.

To give you an idea of just how far away that star is. Voyager 1 was launched in 1977 and travels at around 38, 000 miles per hour. It has traveled about 15.2 billion miles(24.5 billion kilometers). It takes light a little less than 23 hours to travel that distance. And that star is 40 light YEARS away.

It's worth noting that the picture is an artist representation of the planet. We are a long way from any telescope that can see that far away with clarity.

What's funny is we assume that aliens will welcome us with open hands, when even neighbouring human countries are at intraspecies war.

Been there and the local Aliens are cool.

I wish more people were interested in space....

Important to note that that is not what TRAPPIST-1e looks like and is purely an artistic interpretation, as we do not have clear images of any exoplanet.

The drawback is that the star is an m class star which is much smaller than ours which is why the planets can be closer and stay at similar temperatures to earth but the solar winds of m class stars are believed to be less stable and could make the development of live more difficult and certainly harder for anyone visiting to live there but the benefits of smaller stars are that our sun will be long gone before Trappist-1 is middle aged

For all we know, they have already sent a message asking for more episodes of Magnum P.I.

People need to realize, Life might not be defined by what we think it is. WHEN (not if) we find life on another planet, even if the planet LOOKS like earth, don't be surprised when it looks, well, alien.

If science fiction taught me anything it's this, when we go looking out there in space it never works out for us

I’m loving how close we are getting to learning really cool stuff

Trappist-1 sounds like a plan! Pack a bag and we'll make a weekend of it.

The real question with these planets is whether they have in tact atmospheres or whether they were stripped away by flares when the star was younger and more active. If they do it means there’s likely tons of habitable planets in our galaxy since red dwarf stars are so common. If not then it means we’ll likely stop considering planets around red dwarfs as serious candidates for harbouring life until the next generation of telescopes. We should know in the next year or so but my fingers are crossed at least one of them has an atmosphere.

I love these videos so much. I was obsessed with space as a kid. Like it literally all I thought about. Just started seeing your shorts pop up a week or two ago and they have me legitmately excited about it again. You got me day dreaming about the universe at work. Thanks for sharing your passion and please keep going with these, you're very good at this.

Proxima Centauri b is honestly our best shot. 4 light years away w a planet much like ours, but bigger, and in the habitable zone

However those planets are almost thought to be tidally locked and have an orbital period (year) ranging from 1.5 to 19 days. Could make for 😊 me crazy seasons.
But, it is 3 billion years older than Sol so....
