This is coming from a cake artist. The $260 cake is covered with fondant and the flowers are gumpaste. Every petal is made seperately. Such cakes take HOURS to make and ALOT of effort goes into the art. So please dont undermine the art that goes into making such beautiful cakes. There is a reason they charge a good amount for them. Its because not everyone has the skill to make them. So its pretty justified. Specially considering you’ve seen yourself what you’re getting out of a $15 cake.

You cannot make a cake for $15. That’s sad that someone would charge that as even though it’s not that good they still lost a ton of money off making it. Ingredients cost more than that alone.

The 15 dollar cake may not look like the reference picture, but I still think is a great looking cake.

As a cake decorator, $260 for that cake is not a bad price, here’s how we price cakes at my store: base price of cake, flowers are $30 each, materials cost, colours, gold!! There’s so much edible gold on this! Time that it takes the decorator to do it. There are so many factors that go into cake prices

The green thing was actually pineapple filling☺️ Mexican cakes usually have fruit like strawberries, peaches or pineapple in the middle for filling

I think the thin layer around the expensive cake and the flowers on and around it is made of fondant and the chocolate cream in between the layers of cake is chocolate buttercream
fondant can be expensive which may be one reason why it was so highly priced
