In this video, I demo a vastly improved Neural Filter, Colorize. I also talk about a newer Neural Filter that I think will prove to be very useful for many photographers, Depth Blur.

At 73 I rarely take photos any more, however I do spend a lot of time renewing old photos I've taken over the last 60 years and restoring childhood images friends send me. Converting B&W images from the 40s & 50s (when few could afford color film, much less the developing/printing costs) has become something I enjoy experimenting with using the newer AI software. Yes, one could do it with Photoshop prior to the advent of AI via masking and Hue/Saturation adjustment layers, but AI does a lot of the work for you and where it goes off the rails, you can use the former techniques to make your corrections. e.g. the Audrey Hepburn photo you used as an example where I'd mask the sweater, then implement a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer to remove the magenta bleed on the otherwise blue sweater.

Although I've gravitated over to Topaz and Luminar AI software while Adobe lagged behind, this video demonstrates that Adobe is catching up with the AI wave. Thanks for bringing me back home! I'm confident AI will continue to get better at lessening the time it takes to improve our images.

Be sure to change the mode to RGB before using the Colorize filter.

Thank you Anthony; this is a valued addition to Photoshop. I ran into a problem using Neural filter. In Photoshop I have always duplicated the Background Layer (Ctl/J) to do my work. However, the Neural filters would be "greyed" out and not work. A little research informed me that such filters do not work on "adjustment" layers; problem solved. Of course the filters do provide the adjustment layer on their own after the work is completed. Thanks again for your helpful videos; well done.

I'm impressed with that Colorize filter. I don't have any old B&W images to use it on, but if I did this would be pretty useful.

It also works on color shifted old images rendering a nicely corrected image.

Another great and helpful video Anthony. I've got an update version of Photoshop but when I tried to use the Neural Filter Depth Blur I encountered error messages on all the adjustment sliders. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I would love to be able to use it as it would come in handy for wildlife photography so if you have any idea that could help please let me know.

I tried the colorize filter for the first time several weeks ago and it worked great - then I tried again today but I got the message "this filter must be downloaded first". I clicked "download" but it would not download. Any suggestions? Thanks

Has anyone managed to get a passable result out of the makeup neural filter?

OK MR. Photographer here is another question as I KNOW U won't answer as U never do, it is only about U !. I shoot in RAW only, my computer is 16 GB ram - 1 tr HD. When I upload the file from ACR to edit in PS 2021 and use the Neutral filter it crashes. After 5 hours of trying it crashes and says to use this tool you need 165 GB of RAM !!. I have 2 other PC's and 5 DSLR cameras - get the same result no matter what camera / computer I use ! SO, explain why ?? THOUGH I know you won't.!!
