GVM SD300D Review - Powerful Bi-Color Budget Studio Light

Today I review a light from GVM that could be a great budget light for people - BUT it has a ridiculous flaw that will keep some people away. Are you one of those people??

I have this light, got it on sale! from Amazon. I am also REALLY new to this hobby, so probably won't be tripped up by the color temp issue as much as others...and can probably manually adjust to get any additional lights I add to match. Thanks for another great review.

1:29 Are you sure that's for diffusion? On the Aputure lights it's just to protect the COB. If you leave it on accidentally it will melt and destroy your light. I've seen it happen on a 600D (not mine, thankfully.) Also the color temp issue exists on several other lights but is

I recently bought two of these lights and found that they are fairly accurate as of Sept 2024. The value of this light is tremendous as stated in your thorough review. I wish the brick was a bit longer in cord length so I don't need to strap the brick to my stand. Just a nitpicking issue but, for $259 at B&H, it is worth every penny compared to competitor products.

Nice price for a bright light. But, the color temperature issue is pretty bad. Unless I take a screen shot of your correction list and use that. But, it would be hard to tell on a small camera monitor if the white balance is accurate. I think I might wait for the SD300D Mark II.

appreciate the realistic review here, thanks much. quick question: reading about the phone control/wireless adjustments, sounds like the app can be finicky and require a lot of rebooting lights/app/reconnect/etc. what have you seen in regards to this? thanks!

I think, after this great review, they will fix this issue of your light. And than not do the same mistake again. So that this review will be a turning point of a new and much profitable era in their product. Otherwise it will be a turning point for something else :)

Hey off the subject but i no you have heard about the 3 new Sony lenses..
10 20mm wide zoom, 15 mm 1.4 prime and the 11mm 1.8..?
We need videos on all of those this few bucks is burning my pockets to spend on one of those for my Zve10...

Did you only test color accuracy at 4% power? Wonder if that’s the issue. I believe most LED lights struggle with color accuracy at such low output values.

Thanks for the review. I'm in the market to buy a 300W light for commercial video work. Apparently this light comes in two versions: bi-color and day-light adjusted. i wonder if the daylight adjusted color has the same issue? Even if it does, it will be easier to correct as you can't change the temp anyways.
