In 1959, a group of nine experienced hikers from Russia went on a winter adventure in the Ural Mountains. They followed their leader, Igor Dyatlov, hoping to reach Otorten Mountain. But they never came back home.

Their last camp was found on February 26th 1959, on a mountain called "Dead Mountain." The tent they used was torn open from the inside, and they left behind their warm clothes and boots. Some even ran away without shoes in the snow.

Search teams later found their bodies:

Two were found near a forest, without shoes and wearing only their underwear.
Three were between the tent and the forest, like they were trying to go back.
The other four were found months later, buried under snow in a ravine. They wore better clothes, suggesting they took from the others.
At first, people thought they died from the cold. But some had strange injuries:

One had a broken head.
Two had bad injuries to their chest.
A woman was missing her tongue, eyes, and part of her lips.
These injuries didn't seem like they came from a normal avalanche, and some clothes had radiation. People have many ideas about what happened, like avalanches or military tests or UFOs. But even now, nobody knows for sure. It's still a big mystery.

Dyatlov was a hydrogen bomb testing sight in the mountains and one the bombs unluckily fell beside their camping sight and killed them. After this the russian government covered it up to not take blame and make them look bad
