I completely agree that acrylic gouache is not gouache. That name is inappropriate, confusing, and misleading. They should have just called it something like matte acrylic.

i think the " opaque watercolor " description of gouache misleads many .. i think "water based medium "would be better way, and less limiting way to describe it .. many artists just starting with gouache have expectations that it will behave like watercolors, because of the misleading description .. they soon learn and get frustrated that it doesn't behave like watercolor .. i'm enjoying your chat and I thank you both, for this video .. Gouache and watercolor are made from the same ingredients except for the addition of a chalk like ingredient to gouache, like calcium carbonate. (I've made both.) So in that respect, gouache is opaque watercolor. I agree that in actual painting there is more difference though.
